Avatar’s Stephen Lang to Play Conan Villain?
After building up years of experience as a stage actor and taking on mainly smaller roles on screen, Stephen Lang appears to have finally found his defining role as the hard-nosed Colonel Quaritch in James Cameron’s Avatar. For better or worse, it looks like that character will influence the path that his career takes from here on in. After all, not only was Avatar the biggest movie of all time, but let’s face it — after playing a villain as memorable as Quaritch, it’s hard to think of him as anything else.
Latino Review reports that Lang has been offered the role of Khalar Singh in the upcoming Conan movie. Singh is the primary villain of the film, described as “commanding in size and manner, a warlord and formidable warrior, brilliant, cruel, weathered and tanned by the many campaigns he has waged and won”. It sounds like he should be a good fit, and with Mickey Rourke now on board as well, it’s possible that this could shape up to be something a little closer to the Conan movie we all want to see.
On a side note, a couple of months ago comic book artist Rob Liefeld tweeted that Lang would be absolutely perfect casting for Cable if he were ever to make an appearance in a forthcoming X-Men movie. How awesome would that be?

Stephen Lang has a certain fanbase though, his portrayal of George Pickett in Ronald F. Maxwell’s Gettysburg and Stonewall Jackson in Gods & Generals is pretty well respected. And Gettysburg in particular is a dynamite movie.

Posted by Jonny Ashley on March 4th, 2010This guy would be a good fit for any number of comic book characters: Nick Fury, Sgt. Rock, I think he’d be perfect for the grizzled old Bruce Wayne in The Dark Knight Returns, that’s the comic book movie I’ve wanted since I was 15.
