David Gordon Green Takes Over The Sitter Starring Jonah Hill

Whether or not you’re a fan of Pineapple Express, you have to admit that the rest of David Gordon Green’s filmography shows what an insanely talented and versatile director he is. From George Washington and All the Real Girls to Undertow and Snow Angels, he has both artistic aspirations and an appreciation for genre. So for him to get pigeonholed into doing nothing but comedies for a long period time would be a bit of a shame. Unfortunately, it seems that those are the opportunities that are being presented to him, and he is not one to turn them down.
After Freaks of the Heartland was put on hold due to financial trouble at Overture Films, his schedule has opened up, and he will now be taking over the reins for the Jonah Hill comedy The Sitter. Described as an homage of sorts to Adventures in Babysitting, the movie stars Hill as a college student who gets talked into babysitting the kids next door only to have things go horribly wrong. Jonathan Levine (The Wackness) was originally attached to direct back when it was set up at Fox Atomic (which has since been shut down). Green is currently in post-production on another comedy, his tribute to ’80s fantasy films, Your Highness. Are you glad to see Green concentrating on comedy, or is this a potential waste of his talent?

I’m happy he’s doing comedies, but this movie sounds terrible.
Posted by Mike on February 24th, 2010It’s too bad Freaks of the Heartland fell through. The comic’s not great but in Green’s hands it could have been a cool little piece of southern-fried, gothic horror.
Posted by Fatbologna on February 24th, 2010This guy’s one of my favorite directors… but he’s done two comedies in a row, i’d rather see him move on to something else.
