Bruce Willis Says Die Hard 5 is Happening

Here’s a little rumour that’s been making its way around the interweb this week that is sure to spark some healthy debate. While doing interviews for Cop Out, Bruce Willis has apparently let it slip that another Die Hard movie is close to becoming a reality. This isn’t the first we’ve heard of Die Hard 5, but is there any truth to it? Let’s take a look at what he told MTV:

“The John McClane that exists is only in film and in people’s minds. And it continues to grow, that mythology continues to grow… I think we’re going to do a Die Hard 5 next year.”

However, he also went on to say this:

“I like so much more making fun of it, taking the piss out of it and not making it a big deal. Not making the fact that I’ve acted in a lot of movies a big deal. It’s all illusion and it’s all bulls–t and it’s a great job for me to have, but everything else you can set on fire. Making people laugh is the real deal.”

Huh? It sounds to me like it’s possible that he was just joking around, but with Bruce Willis, you never know. Based on the stories that Kevin Smith told about being on the set of Live Free or Die Hard, he seems like a bit of a weird guy, and even if he believes that Die Hard 5 is happening, there’s no guarantee that anyone else is actually getting behind it. Then again, Live Free or Die Hard did make $383 million worldwide, and I, for one, happened to enjoy it. What do you think, is Die Hard 5 something you’d like to see?

  1. I will say it again… I would love to see one of these cash grab franchise sequels end with the hero dying or even the questioning the hero’s decision at the end. Like did they make things worse at the end? Are they even a hero?

  2. Maybe it’s the fact that so much crap has come out lately, but I could really use a movie that’s just fun to watch. I love Bruce Willis kicking butt, and I especially love that there’s never any implications to the stuff his characters pull off. All I ask is that Justin Long is not in it, and that he doesn’t spend the movie relating to his daughter.

  3. The unrated version was a lot of fun. Please don’t make it PG-13 again. The bad guy needed a little work despite my love for the actor the character was not well done. I would definitely be on board for another one.

  4. I’ve always loved the DH flicks. They have always been my favorite B.W. movies. DH4 was great, but so much feel of the franchise was taken out of it; being PG-13 (in my opinion, even the unrated version), and the fact that the essence of Michael Kamen’s music scoring wasn’t really there (R.I.P.)

Whether it does or doesn’t look good, I’m pretty sure I’ll see it anyway. But I pray that who ever directs it, brings back the true essence of a Die Hard film; and not fuck it up, like the last Indiana Jones movie.

  5. L.F.D.H was an adequate action film, but I agree with everyone that it was a shorty die hard. I need f bombs and brutal death scenes. Give it to Werner Herzog, he can make it all Bad Lieutenanty.

  6. oh well why the hell not? I can understand Willis’s point of view, I mean i am the star of one of the biggest budget action franchises so of course I am going to keep doing them as long as they make money. I can’t imagine what it would be like to be the star of one of these giant enterprises? The whole thing revolving around me, the first class treatment and the pampering..I could see a person getting used to that. And then someone says why don’t you do little Indy movies?
