Atari Planning a Missile Command Movie

Oh sure, we all laughed when Universal picked up the rights to an Asteroids movie last summer, making it quite possibly the worst video game movie idea to be hatched by a Hollywood studio to date. But now what about Missile Command? According to the L.A. Times, Atari has recently been shopping around the rights to this golden oldie as well, and they may have a buyer in the form of Fox and executive Peter Chernin’s new production company.
Although the game simply featured jagged lines of missiles raining down on a city to be destroyed by the player, it did have a minor sci-fi angle to it. The instruction manual explains that you are “defending cities on Zardon from the invading armies of Krytol”. If that doesn’t promise cinematic brilliance, then I don’t know what does! Seriously though, the Cold War threat of nuclear missile attacks could make a cool backdrop for a movie, but as with all these wacky projects, it’s completely up to the screenwriter to fill in the blanks. Will this movie ever actually get made? Only time will tell.

I could possibly see the movie being some sort of wargames esque thriller.
