Enchanted 2 Gets a Writer and Director

We’ve been hearing about the possibility of an Enchanted sequel for a couple of years now, and considering that the first movie was both a critical and commercial smash hit, it’s no surprise. What is surprising, however is just how long it seems to be taking the sequel-happy Disney to get Enchanted 2 off the ground. This week it looks like the wheels are finally in motion, with Variety reporting that a writer and director have been hired for the project, and an estimated 2011 release date established.

Since Kevin Lima has since moved on to bigger and better things (ahem… Candy Land), the directing job this time around has fallen to Anne Fletcher, whose past work includes Step Up, 27 Dresses, and The Proposal. Although I haven’t seen any of those films, something tells me she was born to direct Enchanted 2. She has also worked as a choreographer on a ton of movies over the years. The script will be written by Jessie Nelson (I Am Sam, Corrina, Corrina). No word yet on if the original cast will return, but it seems like that is part of the plan. Are you a fan of Enchanted, and is the sequel something you’ve been looking forward to?

  1. Goon is very excited!!!!

  2. It’s a very uneccessary sequel, but as long as Amy Adams returns, it should at least be passable. 27 Dresses and The Proposal were horrible even by rom-com standards though, so I’m a bit nervous.

  3. Hey Sean do you have to ask the post ending questions all the time? Why don’t we just assume that you would like our comments at the end of every post so you don’t have to type it every time. Besides I think it’s safe to assume that most Film Junkies are not exactly Enchanted fans unless we’re all 6 year old girls.

  4. Hey, I’m just trying to direct the discussion. Sorry if it gets repetitive sometimes.

But I don’t think it’s safe to assume that no one likes Enchanted… the movie got 92% on Rotten Tomatoes and a lot of people loved it.
