Mother Trailer: From the Director of The Host

It may have gotten snubbed by the Academy in this year’s Best Foreign Film shortlist, but Bong Joon-Ho’s latest film Mother was already picked up by Magnolia Pictures after Cannes last summer and will finally get a North American theatrical release this March. A domestic trailer has just been released online over at Apple.com, and it looks quite riveting, although it seems like it may also be a difficult movie to sum up with a few clips.
Most people will know Bong Joon-Ho as the director of The Host, but this is no monster movie… at least not in a literal sense. It seems to have more in common with his 2003 film Memories of Murder in that it’s a thriller/murder mystery. The story revolves around a young man who is framed for brutally killing a girl, and his mother, who sets out in search of the true killer. Hey, who doesn’t love movies about parents kicking ass? Mother hits select theatres on March 12th, and I assume it will also be available via VOD around the same time. Check out the trailer after the jump and see what you think.

Posted by KYriakos on January 25th, 2010Just watched this last night. Pretty exceptional. Especially the lead performance. It’s a nice return to smaller, Memories of Murder style filmmaking for Bong Joon-Ho. It’s a beautifully shot and acted film with a pretty decent mystery plot at it’s core. Good stuff.
