Cyrus Trailer Starring John C. Reilly and Jonah Hill

Jay and Mark Duplass have been making a name for themselves as part of the so-called “mumblecore” movement for a few years now, directing low-budget indie films such as The Puffy Chair and Baghead, while Mark also starred in last year’s Sundance hit Humpday. This year they are back at Sundance with another film, but this time around there is one big difference: the movie has big name stars and Fox Searchlight is distributing it. Will this finally be the year that they breakthrough to the mainstream? Based on this trailer for Cyrus, and the early buzz from Sundance, I’d have to say yes.
John C. Reilly stars as John, a recently divorced guy with social issues who meets a woman named Molly (Marisa Tomei) at a party. They hit it off, but after going home with her one night he finds out that she has a 21-year-old son named Cyrus (Jonah Hill) who still lives at home with her. Their relationship is very close and a little creepy, and a rivalry slowly develops between Cyrus and John. It’s hard to watch this trailer and not be reminded of Step Brothers, but even without the star power of Will Ferrell, this definitely seems like a very funny and accessible film. No word yet on a theatrical release date, but hopefully this will make its way to the rest of the world sometime later this year. Check out the trailer after the jump and see what you think.
