Repo Men Trailer Starring Jude Law

Breathe easy folks, this is not a remake of the 1984 Emilio Estevez cult classic Repo Man, but rather a new dark sci-fi thriller starring Jude Law and Forest Whitaker. In the future, artificial organs save lives, but they also cost a lot of money. Many people buy them on credit, and when they fail to make a payment, Jude Law and his buddies come knocking at their door to rip the organs back out of their bodies. Sounds like kind of a clever concept to me, and perhaps a timely one as well.
The first trailer for Repo Men is a red band one, which is mainly so that they can show off the bloody nature of the job (although there is some brief nudity as well). You should be warned that the trailer does give away a plot twist that may or may not end up being a big spoiler… personally I’m kind of glad they did show it, because it made me that much more interested to see it. The movie is based on a novel by Eric Garcia (Matchstick Men), and first-time director Miguel Sapochnik is at the helm. Liev Schreiber, Alice Braga, RZA and Carice van Houten also star. Repo Men hits theatres on April 2nd; check out the trailer after the jump.

Just so you guys know, this plot has been done before, in a not so great musical with a very similar title: Repo! The Genetic Opera. Here’s the IMDB link: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0963194/
Posted by Elyssa on December 24th, 2009I had a hard time getting through the movie- the musical numbers weren’t really the best, and the acting was really quite terrible in my opinion, but it’s surprisingly loved to those who have seen it. Anyway, I just wanted you to know that this plot exists in a movie that was released fairly recently
I watched half the trailer (don’t wanna be spoiled). Good cast, good gore, good concept. I’m sold!
Posted by Napalm on December 24th, 2009Thought this looked pretty cool, I always like Forrest W, and most of the time I like Jude Law. This sounds like something PKD might have come up with, sort of Kafkaesque as well.
Is it just me? but when I watched Jay C’s excellent video review of “Danger Diabolic” my first thought was that John Phillip Law must be Jude’s father? apparently this isn’t the case but the resemblance to me is striking.
Posted by xego on December 24th, 2009The premise did even make sense in The Genetic Opera.
There’s absolutely no way a company could stay in business if it killed off its customers. I could see the company forcing people into slavery when they couldn’t pay for their organs, at least then the company will eventually be paid back, but ripping them out (and killing the customer) merely ensures the end of a revenue stream.
It is a suspension-of-disbelief-plausible excuse to get the audience to empathize with a cereal killer. He’s just a union man doing a dirty job; someone’s got to do it. It also can be somewhat justified as a metaphor for how the system doesn’t care about people. The goons will go right for what you owe, rip it out of you, without a second thought for the effect it has on your life. . .
Anywho, it looks cool. And that’s really all that matters.
Posted by Matthew Maier on December 29th, 2009This seems brutal.. Defenitely gona watch.
Posted by MGL on January 8th, 2010This is such bullshit! What a blatent rip off of repo! The genetic opera, which I’m a huge fan of, they should try an original idea of their own seeing as the opera was conceived in 2001 and eventully made in 2008.
Posted by Scu on January 9th, 2010so what, are they making this for the tough guys that wouldn’t be caught dead watching a musical?
Anyone interested in this movie should see Repo: The Genetic Opera, a far more innovative take on THE SAME EXACT PLOT!
