Happy Holidays from Your Friends at Film Junk!

Hey guys, I just wanted to take this opportunity to wish all you a very Merry Christmas, Happy Holidays and whatever else you might be celebrating at this time of year. It’s been an enjoyable year for all of us here at Film Junk, and we’re awful appreciative that folks like you visit our little website from time to time and feign interest in whatever we might have to say. There may be a ton of other movie blogs out there that are bigger and better, but we’re happy just to be able to share our love of movies with people who feel the same way we do.
Updates will be fairly sporadic over the next week or so, but our Best of Decade countdown will continue on weekdays and our Top 10 of 2009 lists will be unveiled by January 1st, along with the winners of the Film Junk Reader’s Choice Awards. Until then, kick back, relax and pop in your favourite holiday flick. See you all again in 2010!

Posted by Drew on December 25th, 2009Last night I wrapped presents while watching “Die Hard” for the first time ever.
Great Christmas Eve or greatest Christmas Eve?
Posted by Falsk on December 25th, 2009My new ‘inappropriate christmas movie’ of choice is The Proposition, which has supplanted Die Hard
Posted by Goon on December 25th, 2009To get my parents into the christmas spirit this year, I showed them 4 months, 3 weeks and 2 days. That movie is awesome.

They post too much & about movies that suck. I can always come to film junk to see news that’s about good movies w/o spending 30 mins scrolling through garbage. Win.
Merry X-mas

Posted by tamer on December 25th, 2009Hope all of you are sitting back digesting your Xmas dinner. Thx for all of your holiday greetings.
I just watched a news report about how Xmas is being celebrated in China. One Beijing shopper noted how much she enjoyed the “romantic fairy tale of Santa.” Ha ha.
Posted by Reed Farrington on December 25th, 2009Reed, I hope I’ll be hearing you on the next podcast.
Posted by rjdelight on December 25th, 2009Hey Film junk,
Posted by lucas 3d on December 26th, 2009Merry xmas guys – just want to thank you all for being pretty awesome, You were trying to sum up your worst films of ‘09 and I realised I didn’t watch any bad films (except DaVinci code 2) – and it’s largely because of your hard work and prolific dedication – so cheers!
Merry Christmas… Happy New Year!
Thanks for a great show!
Posted by Jon Rocks on December 27th, 2009Will the new podcast be up tonight?
Posted by rjdelight on December 28th, 2009Nothing to do with this post, though Happy Holidays to my new favorite podcast crew.
This is about an incredibly old (internet age) podcast, (Ep. 231 District 9) but I was just recently listening and heard Reed mention an early version of The Prophecy he had seen a bootleg version of. For anyone not believing this existed, I can say that I did see the (probably) exact same bootleg.
At the time it was called ‘God’s Army’ and was titled as such if I remember correctly. No sfx from what I remember and it was a very poor copy.
The only reason I even remember any of this was that it was one of the first times I had ever seen a ‘bootleg’ copy of a movie. I thought it was very cool to be seeing a film before it came out in the theater and really, now that I think about it, it seemed to me to be the start of the whole movie piracy era with the internet and such.
Not sure why I thought this was important, but I think I did want Reed to know that someone else did see that. heh
Anyway Happy New Year and look forward to many more awesome podcasts in the future, guys!
Posted by Rob on December 28th, 2009Please give me a new podcast!
Posted by Nick Robertson on December 28th, 2009Merry Christmas guys – I hate this time of year because everything stops! I’m waiting for websites and a certain podcast to restart and I have 20 packages due to me but the mail is down until tomorrow and then they shut down again until the 4th! BAH!
Rob, I’m so glad that something I said besides a goofy statement on a podcast registered in your brain. I like to think that I occasionally have something interesting to say. The bootleg is indeed entitled “God’s Army.” Actually, I still have a poor VHS bootleg copy.
A friend also provided me with early versions of “Waterworld” and “Robocop 3.” As a fan of the filmmaking process, I like to see early edits, and all the footage that eventually gets discarded, and do a comparison with the finished films. With DVDs and Blu-ray providing more and more supplements, I guess there’s less reason to seek out these leaked versions.
Posted by Reed Farrington on December 28th, 2009The next podcast won’t be recorded until Tuesday night.
Posted by Sean on December 28th, 2009Merry Christmas guys and people that post here. All of the people that contribute to this site are great and I love how this is a place I can geek out on movies that many of my friends won’t tolerate. I gain insight from everyone here.
On Reed’s China comment, I was in Macau China during a past holiday season for business working with an all Chinese team on a building project. As Reed knows, everyone on the team did EVERYTHING together. We kept going to the same restaurant that had “Santa Claus is Coming To Town” on continuous loop! It was like white noise to the Chinese. I had to work out an elaborate scheme with a fellow Chinese American coworker of how to get out of these dinners before I stuck a steak knife in my head!
