Brittany Murphy 1977-2009

Another surprising and sad celebrity death today as 2009 draws to a close. Actress Brittany Murphy has passed away at the young age of 32 after a cardiac arrest. According to TMZ, her mother found her unconscious in the shower this morning and called 911. Paramedics tried to revive her en route to the hospital, but she was pronounced dead on arrival. An investigation into the exact cause of death is still on going.
Murphy starred in such films as Clueless, Sin City and 8 Mile, among others. Although the quality of her acting gigs seemed to be declining as of late, she did have a role in Sylvester Stallone’s upcoming action movie The Expendables. What are your favourite Brittany Murphy flicks?

In that Sin City movie for a moment I fell in love with her…
Posted by SirPrize on December 20th, 2009She did some good voice work on King of the Hill as Louanne. I’ll also remember her most for Drop Dead Gorgeous, Clueless, and the SNL episode she hosted in 2002.
Posted by Mason on December 20th, 2009I loved her in Girl, Interrupted. Her character was sooo crazy and hilarious. She played the part fantastically. I first saw her in Clueless, a favorite for me as a teen, and loved how bad and different she was.
Posted by Celeste on December 20th, 2009I think she was in Freeway, she was the prisoner getting some action with Reese Witherspoon’s character.
Posted by Bionic Commando on December 20th, 2009She was good in everything she did. she was the queen of “the look” I’ll never forget that look she gave Eminem in 8 Mile during the factory scene. Such a shame. Just really a talent/life cut short.
Posted by rus in chicago on December 20th, 2009She was a good talent, she definitely could have had a continued career voice acting (she did well in one of the Futurama direct to DVD movies). Its unfortunate, I’m guessing if it was a heart attack anorexia may be cited.
Posted by Goon on December 20th, 2009Her most recent film Deadline, I enjoyed.
Posted by Doiner on December 20th, 2009Is anyone even going to address how she died? She died of cardiac arrest, which was most likely due to prolonged anorexia. Look at her in clueless (healthy weight) and then look at her eve since 8 mile (concentration camp victim). She was a walking skeleton. What the hell will it take to get people to address the issue that many Hollywood actresses are truly sick? Do Angelina Jolie and Nicole Kidman need to pass on as well before people are willing to talk about this hugely disturbing societal ill that is quite literally killing people.
Posted by LaJusta on December 20th, 2009It’s so messed up that it’s anyone that dies but why is always the talented ones?

Sometimes I think people let it slide in the hopes we’ll get some new faces filling the same tabloid rags. If we lose Jolie, she takes Brad and Jen off the papers with her.
Posted by Goon on December 20th, 2009If it is anorexia related, this may be a good opporutnity to recommend everyone to see the excellent HBO anorexia documentary “Thin”
its on youtube in multiple parts

At least one person in this film that I know of has died since it was released
Posted by Goon on December 20th, 2009I liked her in Don’t Say A Word. What a nutter.
Posted by Ashlee on December 20th, 2009Your a nutter!
Posted by AdamH on December 20th, 2009I completely forgot she was in Freeway. What a great movie.
Regardless of anything else, I’ll always admire her for her performances in King of the Hill, especially as a pre-teen Joseph Gribble. That show gave her a greater range of opportunities than most anything else she was in.
Posted by Wintle on December 20th, 2009The only way this had to do with being thin is if she was bulimic which can fuck up your cardiac electrolyte balances. Exacerbate that with drugs and booze and that could be a fatal combo.
There are countless extremely lean 32 year old women who aren’t dropping dead. Many high level competitive female athlete for example have far less bodyfat that she did.
She died early Sunday morning – after a night of partying I’m guessing. Something like Cocaine can stop your heart cold – even in young healthy athletes(ie Len Bias)
Will be interesting to see what the autopsy reveals.
Posted by damndirtyape on December 20th, 2009Cardiac arrest is a symptom, not a cause.
Before speculation runs rampant sit back and wait for the coroner’s report or an autopsy.
It’s sad for sure, but hearing cardiac arrest then jumping the gun and blaming an eating disorder is a little speculative and chicken littlesque. You are ready to put her face on your picket signs in support of your cause and we don’t even know why she died.
R.I.P Brittany Murphy, A.K.A. Luanne Platter. Texas mourns you.
Posted by Tyson on December 20th, 2009The very first movie I ever saw her in was the 2000 Direct-to-Video teen slasher Cherry Falls. I don’t remember much about it apart from the fact that I think I enjoyed it.
Posted by Slushie Man on December 20th, 2009Rest In Peace.
Posted by Matt Keith on December 20th, 2009She did seem to disappear a little bit after Sin City which was her most memorable role for me at least. She wasn’t a real big star so she didn’t get a huge amount of attention but I’m sure there will be stories coming out about what may have led to her death. She had an interesting look and I think it typecasted her into babe-type roles but she seemed to have the chops to handle more serious stuff. Either way it’s a shame.
Posted by Maopheus on December 20th, 2009Goddamn! That’s just sad and unexpected!
I loved her in 8 Mile. RIP.
Posted by Napalm on December 21st, 2009Crazy stuff! Goes to show how it strike. Look at John Ritter, same kind of thing.
Posted by Tommy on December 21st, 2009Very sad.
Just a couple of days ago I saw “Just Married” for the first time. Not a great movie. But she was gorgeous in it. Loved her in “8 Mile”. Somehow I missed her act in “Sin City” – need to rewatch that. I understand there are many projects in post-production. So, again we get to watch a young talented artist in upcoming movies reminding us of our mortality.
RIP

Posted by equator on December 22nd, 2009Brittany Murphy in “The Dead Girl”… How ironic
She was a beautiful actress, probably not the most talented. She did have an amazing voice that can make any man aroused especially her line in clueless, “Rolling with the homies.” She looked so beautiful and said her line perfect. It is ashame we lost her. Hopefully we do not lose anymore people in a long time… Its too much of who we lost this past year.
R.I.P. All the late celebs
