The Runaways Trailer Starring Kristen Stewart and Dakota Fanning
It didn’t take long for someone to snap up the rights to Floria Sigismondi’s The Runaways, a biopic about Joan Jett and the first major all-girl rock band. Apparition landed the U.S. distribution deal this week, a full month before the movie premieres at Sundance. Considering that the movie stars Kristen Stewart (Twilight), it should be fairly easy to market, and thanks to Guitar Hero and Rock Band, teenagers should be familiar with at least some of the music already.
MTV just released the first trailer online today, and I think it looks pretty good. It touches on their importance in the music world without being overly schmaltzy. The movie also stars Dakota Fanning, Scout Taylor-Compton, Alia Shawkat, Stella Maeve, Tatum O’Neal and Michael Shannon as their manager Kim Fowley. The Runaways hits theatres on March 19th. The trailer looks good. I like the fact that Kristen Stewart is doing other, potentially good, movies than Twilight. She doesn’t need to, with all the money she’s earning doing Twilight, but she is. I appreciate that.
