HBO’s The Ricky Gervais Show Animated Preview, Plus: Karl Pilkington’s Travel Show!

British comedian Ricky Gervais is a pretty busy man these days. As he continues to put the finishing touches on his next movie Cemetery Junction with his partner in crime Stephen Merchant, he’s got all kinds of other things to worry about including preparing to host the Golden Globes, promoting the DVD release of his last film The Invention of Lying, recording more episodes of his podcast, and promoting the launch of the animated version of that podcast on HBO!
Last month he appeared on Letterman and premiered a clip from HBO’s The Ricky Gervais Show which debuts February 19th. If you’ve listened to the podcast before, you should recognize the conversations, but it’s pretty cool to see how they’ve used animation to bring it all to life. Is it just me, or does the cartoon version of Gervais look like Fred Flintstone? A second clip from the show has also recently found its way online; check out both embedded after the jump.
Fans of The Ricky Gervais Show will also be excited to hear this next bit of news: Karl Pilkington is getting his own travel show! Sky 1 in the U.K. is sending him to visit the Seven Wonders of the World. This sounds amazing. According to Ricky’s blog, he is currently in Egypt, where “a bloke offered to suck his cock today in a toilet”. This should make for comedy gold.
Last but not least, Ricky Gervais appeared on 60 Minutes this past weekend. You can also find that video embedded after the jump!

Fantastic ! But why the canned laughter ?
Posted by Paul Andrews on December 15th, 2009KP is a true genius, and let’s be honest; this is the Karl Pilkington show, not the Ricky Gervais show.
It’s not canned laughter, it’s just that the one clip aired on The Late Show so it’s Letterman’s audience laughing.
Posted by Sean on December 15th, 2009Then I’m sold. Cheers Sean.
Posted by Paul Andrews on December 15th, 2009You are bang on, my first thought on seeing that picture was Fred Flinstone.
But Pilkington is a fascinating subject for Merchant and Gervais to constant riff off of. Not unlike your own Reed Farrington vs. Dwyer/Cheel dynamic in Cantankerous.
Posted by Kurt on December 15th, 2009that is good stuff, I need to hear more from Pilkington
Posted by rus in chicago on December 15th, 2009I’ve heard all of these before, but it’s interesting to have visuals to go along with it. Hilarious stuff.
Posted by KeithTalent on December 15th, 2009Jay and I just got back from doing our first Cantankerous on the road, and now I find out that Karl Pilkington, to whom I’ve often been compared, has his own travel show! I guess my lot in life is to be a poor man’s Karl Pilkington. I should really try to listen to some of his stuff.
Posted by Reed Farrington on December 15th, 2009Seems pretty similar to the former Comedy Central show Shorties Watchin’ Shorties, where they took bits of various stand-up routines and added animation:

Prior to that, Dr. Katz sort of did the same thing, where stand-up comedians would basically do parts of their act while appearing as “patients” of Dr. Katz.
Don’t get me wrong, I’m not knocking this new Ricky Gervais show. I liked both of the aforementioned cartoons and I like Gervais.
What canned laughter thats Ricky laughing?
Posted by Me on December 16th, 2009“British comedian Ricky Gervais” – actually he’s half Canadian (on his father’s side) !
Posted by Paul Andrews on December 16th, 2009These are just animations of the Ricky Gervais Show podcasts and XFM radio shows there is no canned laughter added that just Ricky’s laugh to hear more irrelevance from the braincase of Karl Pilkington check out pilkipedia for all there shows
