Philip Seymour Hoffman to Star in P.T. Anderson’s Untitled Religous Drama

A new P.T. Anderson movie is always something to look forward to, but if you are a fan of There Will Be Blood in particular, you’ll want to pay close attention to this next story. Anderson is in the process of setting up his next project at Universal Pictures, and it looks to explore some of the same themes as There Will Be Blood. The movie, currently untitled, will be a period drama set in the ’50s that focuses on the leader of a “faith-based organization” that begins to accrue followers (notice the strategic avoidance of the word “cult” here). The two main characters are The Master (as in “master of ceremonies”) and Freddie, a young drifter who becomes his right-hand man, but soon finds himself questioning the organization’s beliefs.
The lead role of The Master will be played by Philip Seymour Hoffman, who has been in every P.T. Anderson movie to date except for There Will Be Blood. Certainly that’s reason enough to get excited about the project… now all he needs is a Paul Dano-type to complete the movie’s core relationship. Anderson is currently writing the script for the movie, which is budgeted at $35 million, and Universal will not officially decide on a greenlight until they read the final draft. What do you think, is this already sounding like a winner? And are you stoked to see P.T. Anderson work with Philip Seymour Hoffman again?

Am I the only one who don’t find Philip Seymour Hoffman all that great though? He is a good actor but something about him bores me.
