First Official Photos from Narnia’s The Voyage of the Dawn Treader

Things have been pretty quiet on The Chronicles of Narnia front for most of 2009. Late last year it was announced that Disney had dropped out as producer of the next film, The Voyage of the Dawn Treader, leaving the future of the franchise in question. Luckily Fox decided to take it out of Disney’s hands, and now, according to the film’s Facebook page, production on the third installment has apparently wrapped in Australia.

In celebration, they have released the first three official stills from the movie, including the first look at the Dawn Treader herself. Looks a bit too digital if you ask me, but perhaps the CG is still unfinished? Either way, the film’s release date has now been set, and it will hit theatres on December 10th, 2010. Strangely, Prince Caspian seems to have turned off a lot of fans of the first film, so it will be interesting to see how this movie is received. Are you looking forward to The Voyage of the Dawn Treader or are you done with the Narnia series? Check out two more stills after the jump.

  1. This was my favorite book of the series, but these movies are total crap. I have no interest in watching this film ever.

  2. The film version of the book is going to be fantastic.

  3. I loved the first two films, especially the second one and can’t wait for the 3rd! Hopefully they were able to get the same director back.

  4. My inner child and I like the first 2 movies and are looking forward to the third. Those movies might never be considered to be “masterpieces” but they manage to entertain in quite an intelligent way. For movies depending on so much CGI they manage to keep a high “human” level.

  5. There was nothing wrong with the movies at all other than being a little too “family friendly”.

  6. BORING!

  7. racist! these movies are racist against lions!

  8. Loved the books and the 1st 2 films.. The films were much better adaptions of the books than the harry potter adaptions.

The 3rd one definitaly needs to make it less of a childrens film though.

  9. Aslan, what I’d like to see is that fine line between the innocence of the children and the cruelty of reality. Take the first battle scene (of Beruna) from the first film, albeit being one of the best and somewhat intense scenes (especially that build up until when both sides clash) there needed to be more reflection on tragedy. Because otherwise it doesn’t really show the consequence of such a war.

  10. The first movie was pretty faithful to the book, which was why it was popular. The second, Prince Caspian, was a turn off because they did a dismal job of following the original story. If Dawn Treader follows the book, it will be much better received. I wanted to see C.S. Lewis’ books come to life, not a poorly adapted story that used the characters but twisted and abandoned much of Lewis’ story (as did Prince Caspian).

  11. In the book, the Dawn Treader’s supposed to be this dinky little boat. Hell, the schematics are even provided and show it as this little funny dragon boat. And here, they went hog wild on the Disney theme so it looks like something from Hook.

  12. The first and second films were amazing. the voyage is my favorite book by far. I cant wait to see what they do with the movie. as for stepping it up from being a kids film, hello!!!! they are kids books. fairy-tails, they are supposed to be kids movies!!!! if you have a prob with that you should trash the books and the movies!!!
