The fact that the lucrative trend we know as 3-D movies continues to grow; it doesn’t bother me. All (with the exception of 2 that come to mind) are presented in 2-D as well. So if 3-D and the extra $2+ isn’t your thing… then what’s the harm in watching the 2-D version? I get that it’s shot entirely different but there is also another growing trend of indy horror movies making it to the silver screen every year like Paranormal Activity that can’t afford the 3-D tech. So to me there is still a lot to offer in the genre. Myself; I enjoy the 3-D experience and willing to pay because “sometimes†it brings out a different experience that I would normally see on a weekly basis (I see a lot of films). Given the fact that I firmly believe that the first Zombieland installment should have been shot in 3-D since so many elements of the movie would have looked amazing/disgusting/ but nevertheless entertaining… It’s a comedy and it would have been that much more fun. I don’t know; just my over-elaborate 2 cents.
In the states I haven’t noticed any difference in price for 3D vs. 2D so it hasn’t been an issue, maybe I’m not paying enough attention. Our local indie theater chain has been showing 3D revivals for years: Jaws 3-D, Treasure of the Four Crowns, Friday the 13th Part III, those showings were always a blast and I generally feel 3-D adds a bit of “event” quality to a release. “Having said that…” adding 3-D doesn’t incite me to see a movie I otherwise wouldn’t bother with.
