Universal Soldier: Regeneration Trailer Starring Jean-Claude Van Damme and Dolph Lundgren

Back in April, Wintle brought us news of a new Universal Soldier movie that was in production, starring both Jean-Claude Van Damme and Dolph Lundgren. Although technically it would count as the fifth movie in the series, the story line picks up after Universal Soldier: The Return (the only sequel that also starred JCVD) making it the “official” part 3. Now a trailer for Universal Soldier: Regeneration has arrived online, and while it certainly looks like a direct-to-DVD release (which it is), I’m sure action movie fans will still find some stuff worth getting excited about here.

As with all the other DTV action flicks we’ve been getting lately, the movie also co-stars an MMA fighter: Andrei “The Pitbull” Arlovski. The story involves a group of terrorists taking over Chernobyl and threatening to “unleash a radioactive cloud” unless their demands are met. Director John Hyams (The Smashing Machine, Rank) calls it an ’80s nostalgia piece, particularly because of the synth soundtrack they decided to use. What do you think, will this be worth checking out? Universal Soldier: Regeneration will hit DVD and Blu-ray on January 5th. The trailer is embedded after the jump.

  1. Looks above average. Will definetly check it out!

  2. this doesn’t look that bad to be honest. i’ll check it out when i can.

the movie poster however is atrocious!

  3. “Above average”???
Don’t let JCVD hear that! He’d kick your ass!

  4. Van Damme wouldn’t do Expandebles because he felt it had a bad story. But this, this is somehow acceptable…LoL.

Well, im gonna see it anywhays. Looks awesome for a C movie to be…

  5. this looks really atrocious. will this movie only consist of one big fight in a single location?

  6. Ok here is my big comment… so Van Damme turns down Sly’s movie for this?

  7. Van Damme was contracted to do this before JCVD so he didn’t turn Stallone down.

  8. Ok please someone let this make sense. At the end of ‘Universal Soldier’ Dolph got shredded threw a grinder and liquifide right after van dam round houses him into a crucifixion pose onto some wooden spikes. How does he regenerate or appear in ‘US: R’? Please help clear the confusion because i am in high anticipation for this flick. I just want the story to make sense from the ending of the first installment.
