SPOILER:

I love A.I. - I will defend it, although it has it's flaws. Still I love the fact the humans are extinct in the future. As sappy as the ending is with David and his last experience with his mom, it's great that in the overall picture it's a complete tragedy from a human standpoint. The story had the balls to whipe out all of humanity by the end of it, where as not even your standard disaster films risk doing that. It's flawed, but at least it was fascinating and will become more relevant as AI develops.

I'm a bit of a newbie Film Junk listener, and this is the first Movie Club podcast I've listened to as well. I have to say you guys had a very interesting discussion about these two films, both of which I enjoy.

One thing I was curious about was, at the end of Prince of Darkness, the dream Simon and Simon has is actually just a nightmare and not really part of what was happening during the film and in the previous "future dreams". That's what I took away from it anyway. Just his unconscious wish to see the woman he loved again.

I was a bit surprised none of you guys picked up on that, or maybe you did, but it definitely seems like you all thought it was actually part of the dream sequence and it was indicating they had changed the future or something.

Not to say that's not possible of course. And it brings up interesting questions as to who exactly is 'broadcasting' the dreams. Perhaps A.J. Simon was broadcasting it to himself to let himself know she'd be back?

Anyway, interesting discussions on both films. I'll definitely be checking it out in the future in addition to Film Junk and will probably give Row Three a listen as well in the near future.

One interesting connection of Prince of Darkness and A.I. (in hindsight of our discussion) in that they are both set at a point where Science, Religion and Fantasy intersect.

I agree that AI is underrated. Too many people think that it is merely pretty bad, when it is actually monumentally bad.
