Film Junk Poll: What is the Best Nicolas Cage Movie?

Alright folks, it’s time to settle this once and for all! In recent years it has become almost too easy to hate on Nicolas Cage, and I’ll be the first to admit that he’s starred in some pretty spectacular crap lately. But let’s not forget, the man won an Oscar back in ‘96, and as Bad Lieutenant: Port of Call New Orleans proves, he can turn in a great performance under the right circumstances. One thing’s for sure: he’s certainly not afraid to take risks. Below I have selected a list of some of his most noteworthy films, and I pose this question to you: which one is his best work to date? Cast your vote and then feel free to discuss the merits of these and other Nic Cage films in the comments.

The best Nic Cage movie isn’t on the list. Bringing out the Dead.
Posted by Jersey Jason on November 20th, 2009You may disagree with me that it’s the best, but it’s a lot better than half of the films listed.
Where’s Rumble Fish ?

I was debating whether to include Bringing Out the Dead vs The Weather Man… in the end I just thought more people would have seen The Weather Man. But I agree, it is a great flick.

Posted by craintrain on November 20th, 2009Is Moonstruck seriously not on here because that’s the only thing he ever actually acted in.

And Vampire’s Kiss. And Peggy Sue Got Married. And none of those listed.

Oh man, I forgot about Moonstruck! And I own that movie. Great movie.
Posted by Deven Science on November 20th, 2009I love Nicolas Cage. I ignore his terrible movies and treasure the great ones.
Posted by Glendon on November 21st, 2009The scene where he steals the bike.
Posted by Henrik on November 21st, 2009I used to enjoy Nic Cage performances but not recently.
When he plays it big he is immensly watchable, when he tries to be subtle it just doesn’t work.
Therefore my favourite performances are in things like Raising Arizona, Vampire’s Kiss and Snake Eyes.
But Wild at Heart is the best movie.
Posted by el1sdf on November 21st, 2009I was going to mention Vampire’s Kiss as well. Red Rock West is good too.
Posted by Mrespony on November 23rd, 2009i vote “bringing out the dead” too.
Posted by blackmothra on November 23rd, 2009If the question was: “What is the WORST Nicolas Cage movie??” my answer would be a lot easier…
I voted for Leaving Las Vegas because of Elisabeth Shue. She is nice.
