With the holiday season quickly approaching, it’s time for the November rush… which means we’re in for a seriously packed DVD release day! When you look at the major releases, the only real blockbuster here is J.J. Abrams’ Star Trek, but there are a ton of interesting indie releases and a solid line-up of Blu-ray discs as well. A pair of underperforming comedies hit stores today (Bruno and The Goods) plus Jim Jarmusch’s The Limits of Control, Chan-wook Park’s vampire drama Thirst, and the Sundance hit Humpday, not to mention the Lil’ Wayne documentary The Carter. On Blu-ray, we have new anniversary editions of Fight Club and Gone with the Wind, plus three Kevin Smith flicks, Galaxy Quest, and Leon: The Professional. What’s on your shopping list this week?

  1. I’d like to hear a review of Limits of Control.

  2. we should get a pool together to buy mr. ferrington a bluray player .. they are pretty cheap now, and he needs to watch star trek again. plus the original series looks fantastic in highdef .. he needs one for that alone. … how do we go about putting together a reed needs a bluray player fund?

  3. “Hump Day”? EWWWWWW! Run away… RUN AWAY!

  4. word is that the Bruno commentary track is exceptionally good.

  5. blackmothra, I ended up buying the Star Trek 3-Disc Blu-Ray with the Enterprise case. I downloaded the digital copy and installed it on my iPod Touch already. So I’ll probably re-watch Star Trek in three minute increments during trips to the bathroom. I might enjoy it better that way. Ha ha.

  6. Reed– I like that you wrote the “Ha Ha” in the end of that post

And I am very much looking forward to watching the Star Trek blu-ray this weekend. I enjoyed the film, but spent the time in the theater annoyed that I had been duped into going to one of those BS fake IMAX theaters.

Damn you Neshaminy Mall fake IMAX theater.

Also– I will have to grab Leon on blu-ray. That’s one of the movies that made me decided to go to film school.

  7. **made me decide.

  8. the Star Trek rewatch has pushed me to the positive camp, though I still maintain many of my same complaints. I take back anything bad I said about Chris Pine though.

  9. Nice. Now if only we could say the same for Reed.

  10. The new Evangelion also came out, which I wrote a review for on my site.
