A lot of these movies aren’t officially released yet but I have heard the following actors all mentioned as being Oscar contenders thus far:

George Clooney (Up in the Air)
Viggo Mortensen (The Road)
Jeremy Renner (The Hurt Locker)
Colin Firth (A Single Man)
Daniel Day-Lewis (Nine)

There’s also Brothers (not sure who would be considered the lead in that) and the guy from A Serious Man.

Who is crowding the field at the oscars? I can’t think of other candidates off the top of my head.
