The Green Goblin could easily still be alive. Remember, we never saw the body at the funeral and the butler could have had Osborn Industries cover up Norman’s death. In the comics, the serum provided Norman a healing factor that enable him to survive the same exact injury. His body could have went into a catatonic state while it was repairing itself. This would create a hyped up sequel if they showed Norman appearing in the last scene of Spiderman 4. It would create a cliffhanger like The Empire Strikes Back. Excellent marketing ploy for the next movie…. Spiderman 5: The Return of the Green Goblin.

This reminds me of a point that either Jay or Greg brought up about these franchises flatout killing the villian with seemingly zero chance of their return..when have a movie with a 100 million plus budget you’d think they’d want to keep certain options open…The Nolans saw fit to have the Joker captured..

He actually could return in person. In the comics, he returns as another villain, who is much tougher to defeat. His name is Scrier, and it’s Osborn ressurected. You can’t say that’s not possible, if there’s such thing as a man with mutant spider powers. My choices for characters:
