Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time Trailer Starring Jake Gyllenhaal

After a low quality version of the trailer found its way onto YouTube earlier today, IGN has wisely decided to unveil the official trailer for Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time a few hours early. I have to admit, I’ve been pretty curious to see what Jerry Bruckheimer and Mike Newell could do with this video game franchise on the big screen. All the right elements are here for an epic action/fantasy film, but will it just turn out to be another terrible game-to-movie travesty?
One thing I can say after watching this trailer is that it looks very… expensive. I mean, the amount of special effects on screen here are ridiculous, at times almost on par with that 5-minute clip from Roland Emmerich’s 2012. Although I like what I see of the costumes and scenery, I’m not too sure about a lot of the weird CG effects. But hey, it’s cool because Jake Gyllenhaal is running up walls! It’s hard to say if there’s actually a decent story underneath all this, but the sad thing is it looks like it could easily be a massive mess on par with Pirates of the Caribbean: At World’s End and Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen. At least they could have waited for part 2 or 3 to unveil this much craziness! What do you think? Prince of Persia hits theatres on May 28th, 2010; the trailer is embedded after the jump.

Pass. Feels like the Mummy but with even cheesier camera work gimmicks.
Posted by Damndirtyape on November 2nd, 2009Probably my age but Hollywood keeps running faster and faster in the opposite direction of getting me excited about going to the movies. I liked it when video games were made about movies, not the other way around.
Posted by Mrespony on November 2nd, 2009Disney presents, from Jerry Bruckheimer… Meh. Fuck video game movies.
Posted by Felipe on November 2nd, 2009despite all the action in the trailer I was kind of bored watching it.
Posted by Niklas on November 2nd, 2009JG seems to be doing a good job with the british accent. But also, what’s up with the british accent? What I’m saying is why is he british? I’ve never played the game or, obviously, seen the movie, so maybe that’s why I don’t get his britishness. But it seems rather pointless. Maybe it’s just more action-y that way. Or more epic. They probably had a focus group tell them that?
Posted by jim on November 2nd, 2009Looks big Budget and Loud. What did anyone expect?
Posted by The Man on November 2nd, 2009Like I mentioned at Twitter, the prince dude looks and acts like a poor mans Jack Sparrow. Not interested at all.
Posted by Kasper on November 2nd, 2009the snake gives it away – movies are being ruined by 3D bullshit gags! this well be released in 3D, guarantee
Posted by rus in chicago on November 2nd, 2009seriously, british accents for anything old = annoying
definitely seems they’re going for the Pirates crowd though.
Posted by Goon on November 2nd, 2009While I generally ignore all action, adventure, horror, thriller, and genre films these days, and I don’t think I’ve gone to the theatre solely to drool at a hot guy on screen since high school, Jake Gyllenhaal is one of my weaknesses. And this doesn’t look *completely* horrible. I’d probably pay $4 to see it at a Tuesday Matinee.
Posted by Ashley on November 3rd, 2009This looks like a good time. I’m curious to catch it.
Posted by Captain N on November 3rd, 2009i’m a huge fan of the games so i’ll watch it. but solely from the trailer it doesn’t show us anything new. i was expecting some Middle Eastern vibe in the music. but it looks like they are going with the huge epic scores, which sucks in this case.
Posted by Napalm on November 3rd, 2009My only interest in this is because a friend of mine is in this. It’s not often you can see your friends in a huge block buster like this.
Posted by swarez on November 3rd, 2009Man, looks disappointing and very cheesy
And considering this is Disney, someone is going to be hit in the balls somewhere.
Posted by Chris on November 3rd, 2009Looks horrible.. and whats the deal with the british accent and the Obvious non chemistry between Gemma Arteton and Jake gyllenhaal. It was almost painful in its cheeseyness.
Posted by MalD on November 3rd, 2009I played this movie.
Posted by Sly on November 3rd, 2009Holy fuck this looks terrible.
Posted by Chuck on November 4th, 2009Lame dialogue, script / story will suck.

Yeah, the audience! Ohoho.
I’m … actually interested in seeing this.
Posted by Bunyip on November 4th, 2009hmmm Prince of PERSIA… why pick JG? Why not someone a little more, how do I say this…ethnic? that one scene where he’s fighting shirtless it’s obvious they forget to rub the tanning spray in. looks like CGI fun fest so I’ll watch, but hollywood needs to give newbies a chance I think cuz I am sure there’s a better option out there than JG with a british accent.
