Men in Black 3 Gets the Other Tropic Thunder Writer

As we’ve previously discussed, Justin Theroux’s career has taken off after writing Tropic Thunder, and the film’s other screenwriter Etan Cohen also seems to be similarly in demand. We heard earlier this year that Men in Black 3 was definitely in development, but now according to Variety, Columbia Pictures have taken the first step toward making it a reality by hiring Cohen to pen the script.
Etan Cohen is a former Mike Judge collaborator, having written for Beavis & Butthead and King of the Hill, in addition to co-writing the screenplay for Judge’s Idiocracy. He was also working on the currently shelved Will Ferrell/Sacha Baron Cohen Sherlock Holmes comedy, and the upcoming Candy Land board game movie. So, is this a good thing? And will Cohen be able to come up with a script that is strong enough to convince Will Smith and Tommy Lee Jones to sign on for MIB 3? Let’s hope so, because I don’t think any of us want to see Sony do it without them!

man I’m embarrassed, this whole time I thought Ethan Cohen from the Cohen Bros. was the writer listed on Tropic Thunder, like they did on Bad Santa. Whew, could have lost $20 in a bet there!
By the way, we need a good sci fi comedy like the original MIB!

Posted by jaime on October 31st, 2009I’m very partial to MIB….like Starship Troopers…the first rocked, the second sucked, and the third should have been the second.
Not too many sequels out there have the honour of continued excellence and tradition….newest Batman, Problem Child, The Star Wars Saga, LOTR, maybe the Texas Chainsaw Massacres…
