Stallone Wants To Make Rocky VII

More bad news. Lately it seems to be all I bring. Sylvester Stallone is planning to bring back his ever popular boxer Rocky Balboa for a seventh round in the ring. Yes, that’s right, a Rocky VII is being planned. Why? I don’t know, but Stallone claims that he has to do it, which is a shame, since Rocky Balboa was such a perfect ending for the character. The movie, if greenlit (and I see no reason why it shouldn’t be, seeing as Rocky Balboa was a huge success, bringing in $155 million on a $24 million budget), will probably start shooting late 2010 or early 2011, depending on when Stallone is finished filming Rambo 5, another unnecessary sequel of his.
“I know I’ll probably make a fool of myself if I make another ‘Rocky’ film after turning 60. I also know there’s gonna be a lot of criticism. Even my wife says, ‘Don’t do it. You’re embarrassing the kids’. But I told her, ‘If I don’t try I’ll be a really unhappy man.’ You have to do it. Artists like me have to go through the dark over and over again.”
That’s what Stallone had to say about the matter to the German TV station Tele 5. So, he has to do it, fine. But what will the movie even be about? The only thing that seems to be left to create a storyline about, that hasn’t been done before, is Rocky dying. He started as a nobody, made a name for himself, defeated the Russians, became a trainer himself, grew old and had the last fight, so now what? If the story doesn’t revolve around him dying, then I can’t imagine this being anything other than a rehash of the other films’ plots. What do you think, should Stallone make Rocky VII, or should Rocky Balboa be the end of the road for our mumbling boxer? I kinda think this is fake, or somehow an old interview surfacing again — it happens — but who knows, eh?
Update: It appears that this actually was an old interview talking about Rocky Balboa rather than Rocky 7. The Rocky saga will remain untouched… for now.

Posted by jaime on October 26th, 2009Where does he get these delusions that he HAS to make another Rocky movie? Geez, Sly. What’s the matter with you?
Posted by ShenEvil44 on October 26th, 2009The last one was actually good – This just makes me nervous that they will end this series on a bad note. I would not touch it if I were sly, but hey… he might pull out a winner here.
Posted by Big Hungry on October 26th, 2009i read the original interview on the tele5 website in german. there’s an error in the translation because he meant rambo 5 not rocky 7. he talks about making rocky with 60 and how crazy he is for doing another rambo movie in his 60s.
Posted by markusmaria on October 26th, 2009Markusmaria is right. He’s not making another Rocky film.
Posted by Swarez on October 26th, 2009Thanks for the clarification guys… this makes a lot more sense. I’ll update the post.
Posted by Sean on October 26th, 2009At least Ahnuld has challenged his middle-aged, over-the-hill action star angst into politics. Sly needs to realize that he’s getting too old for this shit, and that the HGH and steroids and whatever the hell he’s taking aren’t going to last forever.

Posted by Zac on October 27th, 2009…it’s like seeing the Jaws 19 gag from Back the the Future part 2 come to life! A “monumental” moment to be sure…?
Posted by Zac on October 27th, 2009I would leave the Rocky series alone,I am not sure there is anywhere to go with it based on the ending of Rocky VI.
