Stallone Wants To Make Rocky VII

rocky7

More bad news. Lately it seems to be all I bring. Sylvester Stallone is planning to bring back his ever popular boxer Rocky Balboa for a seventh round in the ring. Yes, that’s right, a Rocky VII is being planned. Why? I don’t know, but Stallone claims that he has to do it, which is a shame, since Rocky Balboa was such a perfect ending for the character. The movie, if greenlit (and I see no reason why it shouldn’t be, seeing as Rocky Balboa was a huge success, bringing in $155 million on a $24 million budget), will probably start shooting late 2010 or early 2011, depending on when Stallone is finished filming Rambo 5, another unnecessary sequel of his.

“I know I’ll probably make a fool of myself if I make another ‘Rocky’ film after turning 60. I also know there’s gonna be a lot of criticism. Even my wife says, ‘Don’t do it. You’re embarrassing the kids’. But I told her, ‘If I don’t try I’ll be a really unhappy man.’ You have to do it. Artists like me have to go through the dark over and over again.”

That’s what Stallone had to say about the matter to the German TV station Tele 5. So, he has to do it, fine. But what will the movie even be about? The only thing that seems to be left to create a storyline about, that hasn’t been done before, is Rocky dying. He started as a nobody, made a name for himself, defeated the Russians, became a trainer himself, grew old and had the last fight, so now what? If the story doesn’t revolve around him dying, then I can’t imagine this being anything other than a rehash of the other films’ plots. What do you think, should Stallone make Rocky VII, or should Rocky Balboa be the end of the road for our mumbling boxer? I kinda think this is fake, or somehow an old interview surfacing again — it happens — but who knows, eh?

Update: It appears that this actually was an old interview talking about Rocky Balboa rather than Rocky 7. The Rocky saga will remain untouched… for now.

  1. GOD NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO,WHO’S HE GON’A FIGHT GODZILLA?

  2. Where does he get these delusions that he HAS to make another Rocky movie? Geez, Sly. What’s the matter with you?

  3. The last one was actually good – This just makes me nervous that they will end this series on a bad note. I would not touch it if I were sly, but hey… he might pull out a winner here.

  4. i read the original interview on the tele5 website in german. there’s an error in the translation because he meant rambo 5 not rocky 7. he talks about making rocky with 60 and how crazy he is for doing another rambo movie in his 60s.

  5. Markusmaria is right. He’s not making another Rocky film.

  6. Thanks for the clarification guys… this makes a lot more sense. I’ll update the post.

  7. At least Ahnuld has challenged his middle-aged, over-the-hill action star angst into politics. Sly needs to realize that he’s getting too old for this shit, and that the HGH and steroids and whatever the hell he’s taking aren’t going to last forever.

  8. Oh my god!! Rocky VII: Adrian’s Revenge!!!!!!

  9. …it’s like seeing the Jaws 19 gag from Back the the Future part 2 come to life! A “monumental” moment to be sure…?

  10. I would leave the Rocky series alone,I am not sure there is anywhere to go with it based on the ending of Rocky VI.

  11. If your going to go out with a bang here goes:

Line em up,,, Tyson, who ever. Use the real names go all out fantasy. It would only make something from the past interesting. It’s going to take some real star power in this one. Fight all the dang heavy champions and unify the belts. That would be an unreal story so there’s your angle. Stallone comes out of retirement to unify the belts and show that age is expertise and he has to prove to the himself and the world the last thing that ages on a person is their heart and will to win!

I want no money. Just make a great film. Thanks :)

  12. Eu sunt total de acord sa finalizeze si Rocky VII !!!

  13. I think the character needs to retire.

  14. I think there should be a rocky VII ,but i think rocky should die in this movie….if not then there would be a rocky 8?

  15. I thought Rocky 2 and Rocky 4 had the best fights, rocky should of died in rocky 5 or rocky 6….but i would like to see rocky 7 maybe this time rocky could win back the world title …..

  16. Your all idiots. 24million = 150million for rocky 6. Why wouldnt he make a rocky 7? Its stupid not to, i know for a fact that I would go and see it at the cinema. I love Rocky and I hope stallone keeps making Rocky movies till the day he dies.

  17. The last Rocky he made was the best since the Rocky one. The script will be amazing for part 7 I’m sure so he doesn’t flop the series.

  18. I could see how it could be done. Mason The Line Dixon barely wins, but is constantly being reminded that he beat an old Rocky, and that he wouldn’t have beaten Rocky in his prime. In the meantime, Rocky Jr (who left his job in the latest Rocky movie) can’t find work in this economic downturn. He is eventually convinced to get into the ring to become the Young Rocky that Mason The Line Dixon will fight. To make this story short, Rocky trains Rocky Jr and Rocky Jr beats Mason The Line Dixon.

  19. Sly, Don’t listen to these remarks, I think you should make a “ROCKY VII”, the only thing is, Is that I hope you DO leave the VII in the TITLE, and call it “ROCKY VII”, that would be great and in “ROCKY VII”, you should fight a “Japanese Boxer” in Japan like you did in IV, you fought a “Russian Boxer” in Russia,…. Please consider it.,,, Thank You Sincerely Steve Parella,…

  20. I think in Rocky VII and he will die after he win his last fight. (and maybe recovering his fortune lost in Rocky IV/V).

However Rocky VIII may be a sequence of “gohstbusters” hunting Balboa´s gohst. hahahahahahahaa

Seriously, a Rocky VII is a good idea. (Rocky VIII is a joke)

  21. I think Rocky should fight like Mr. T or Drago again it’d be like Rocky VII Mr. t’s revenge or Drago’s deathmatch. I agree that he should die to seal the series.

  22. Even though this is an old article.. I actually got a lil excited at another Rocky. I thought Rocky Balboa (Rocky VI) was very good and beat all expectations. I think he shut up some of the critics who made fun of him for making another one. On the other hand, I never realized how it was a perfect ending.. From the beginning losing his first title match, then getting it in the second film. then on top the world in the third. Then peaks in 4 when beating the Russian (which by far is my favorite Rocky movie), then it all comes crashing down in the 5th as a trainer to come back out on top. And the 6th truly was the perfect ending – one more match! But as I read on and found out, he wasn’t talking about Rocky VII. Oddly enough tho, as another comment said, about fighting Ivan Drago again! I was just thinking that this week as Rocky is being played all week long on AMC. I thought how it would be cool to fight him again. But who would win? Many people LOVE Dolph Lungdren and Rocky already beat him.. Ok, I’m getting ahead of myself.. I hope though, in Rambo 5 that he doesn’t make a film where Rambo is hired to kill a Secret Government experiment gone wrong. Like a resident evil Zombie meets Rocky. That would just be awful. For Rambo 5? Some goverment conspiracy would be great.. more Drama, less action but still some good fight scenes would be great..

  23. I love the Rocky series…but if Stalone wants to make another one I say let him do it. Rocky VI made Rocky a comeback and I think theres more in Rocky’s basement that has to come out. Bysides at the end of the sixth one he said to paule that the beast isn’t gone.
