New To Theatres This Weekend: Couples Retreat, Good Hair, An Education

After a flood of theatrical releases over the past couple of weeks, this weekend has only one new movie in wide release, and it is Peter Billingsley’s Couples Retreat starring Vince Vaughn, Jon Favreau, Jason Bateman and Kristen Bell (among others). Something tells me the 11% rating on Rotten Tomatoes won’t stop it from making a lot of money, but there is no shortage of alternatives if you live in a major city. Lone Scherfig’s An Education, based on a screenplay by Nick Hornby, has been getting great reviews from various festivals, while Chris Rock’s Good Hair and Nicolas Winding Refn’s Bronson also look decent. If you’re a soccer fan, you may want to check out The Damned United, and Paranormal Activity continues to expand to more theatres based on strong word of mouth. What will you be checking out this weekend?
- Couples Retreat
- An Education (limited)
- The Damned United (limited)
- Good Hair (limited)
- Bronson (limited)
- From Mexico with Love (limited)
- Free Style (limited)
- Fallen Idol: The Yuri Gagarin Conspiracy (limited)
- Paranormal Activity (expanding)

I will be seeing no films this weekend. Couples retreat can eat a dick. And none of the other releases are coming to Oklahoma.
Posted by Joel on October 9th, 2009No Cairo Time there? It opened wide here in the T-dot, which is always rare but great to see for a Canadian flick. I’m going to catch up on some films I missed recently.
Posted by Shannon the Movie Moxie on October 9th, 2009I suppose it helps if you’re a Brit and know who Brian Clough was, but, nevertheless, Damned United is great by the way.
