Ellen Page Developing HBO Series Stitch N’ Bitch
Ellen Page’s star has been on the rise ever since she landed the lead role in David Slade’s Hard Candy, but clearly it was Juno that made her one of the most sought-after young actresses in Hollywood. Her name is now virtually synonymous with all that is hip and female, but should she be distancing herself from that image in order to avoid being typecast? She doesn’t seem to think so, as she is now in the process of developing a new series for HBO called Stitch N’ Bitch, about “two painfully cool hipster girls” who move from Brooklyn to L.A. in order to pursue careers as artists.
The title of the show would seem to be a reference to the popular series of knitting books by Debbie Stoller, although it remains to be seen if the premise has anything to do with knitting at all. Page will write the show with fellow actors Alia Shawkat (Arrested Development) and Sean Tillmann (aka Har Mar Superstar), both of whom co-starred in Whip It with her. Whether or not the trio will star in the series themselves is still yet to be decided. This is the first time Ellen Page has worked as either writer or producer, so it will be interesting to see what comes of it. I think she could have potential, although I also sense that the Ellen Page backlash may be right around the corner. Thoughts?
