First Photo from Date Night Starring Steve Carell and Tina Fey

If I had to guess, I’d say there’s a very good chance that Shawn Levy’s upcoming comedy Date Night will be a big hit. Not only does it bring together the stars of two of the biggest sitcoms on TV right now (The Office and 30 Rock), but it also has a supporting cast that includes James Franco, Mila Kunis, Mark Wahlberg, Kristen Wiig, Mark Ruffalo, Ray Liotta and yes, even G4’s Olivia Munn. Not to mention the fact that Shawn Levy has directed two of the highest grossing comedies of the past 3 years with Night At The Museum and its sequel. But will it actually be good?
The script for Date Night, which was originally written by Brian Koppelman and David Levien (Ocean’s Thirteen, Knockaround Guys, Rounders), got an honourable mention from the 2008 Hollywood BBC Elite List as one of the best screenplays of the year. However, since then it’s been re-written by Simon Kinberg (Mr. & Mrs. Smith, The Hardy Men), Aline Brosh McKenna (The Devil Wears Prada) and Josh Klausner (Shrek the Third). All I know is that it involves a married couple out for a night on the town that goes horribly awry. Judging from the first picture released online this week by USA Today, things get more than a little out of hand. Are you looking forward to a team up between Steve Carell and Tina Fey? Is Date Night one of the big comedies to look forward to in 2009?

Posted by The Other Guy on October 1st, 2009I like the story idea and stars, but doubt I will pay to see it in the theater. Sounds like “Blind Date” with Bruce Willis and Kim Basinger, which I recommend if you haven’t already seen it.

Posted by Machete on October 1st, 2009I don’t know all that rewriting means a lot of second guessing which means compromises which usually equates to shit and mediocrity. I hate being a hater but I can’t deny common sense. The best stuff is when a handful of people work together to make something NOT when one group hands some job to another to retouch and that gets passed to yet another. I mean we all played telephone as kids right?
