Multiple Clooney Movies Going Head to Head in November

If you just can’t get enough of George Clooney on the big screen, then you should be looking forward to November, because as of right now he is headlining not one, not two, but three new releases, all hitting theatres within mere days of each other. This kind of thing doesn’t happen too often, primarily because it doesn’t make good business sense… but in this situation, no one seems to be budging. Yet.

Grant Heslov’s upcoming comedy The Men Who Stare at Goats had previously staked out a November 6th release date, but after all the positive buzz surrounding Jason Reitman’s Up in the Air at Telluride and TIFF, Paramount decided to bump it up from December to the weekend after Goats, November 13th. Add to that the Fox Searchlight animated film Fantastic Mr. Fox (limited release Nov. 13th), and you’ve got a potential Clooney triple-header right there. I am guessing we’ll be seeing him on a lot of talk shows next month.

Either way, The Hollywood Reporter seems convinced that Up in the Air will have to eventually relent and delay its release, even though it is expected to have more mainstream appeal (although The Men Who Stare at Goats does have Ewan McGregor as well, so who knows). Could all these conflicting movies cost Clooney a shot at an Oscar this year? And more importantly, can too much Cloon really be a bad thing?

Update: Up in the Air has been pushed back to December 4th after all.
