Halloween 3-D Put on Hold, Halloween 2 Coming Back to Theatres

Last we heard, the next Halloween installment Halloween 3-D was being rushed into production by The Weinstein Company in order to be ready by next summer, with director Patrick Lussier (My Bloody Valentine 3-D) signed on to direct the film. This week, however, Nikki Finke is reporting that production has been temporarily shut down due to concerns that it is “rushing too fast”. Uh… what? Since when has a studio ever been concerned that a movie might be made too quickly?
The official story is that Lussier is also scheduled to start production on Drive Angry, the 3-D revenge flick with Nicolas Cage, in early 2010, giving him very little time for pre-production on Halloween 3. They have decided to wait until Lussier’s schedule is clear, although it remains to be seen if this will change the movie’s projected release date. One can’t help but wonder if The Weinstein Company’s rumoured financial problems may have also been a factor in the decision.
The stranger part of the story, however, is that TWC will also apparently be re-releasing Halloween II in theatres for a limited engagement and special midnight screenings around Halloween. People have often wondered why the rebooted franchise has stuck to late summer releases thus far, but perhaps the Saw franchise isn’t as invincible as it once was? Halloween II has made just $32 million to date, so I suppose anything that might squeeze a few more dollars out of the movie is a good idea.

I had heard (and this may not be true) that the original Halloween opened in August and ever since Mustapha Akkad (producer) has opened all of them in August due to a superstitious good luck thing. And now his son must be continuing that. Who knows. The movie sucked.
Posted by Bryan (Drunken Zombie) on September 30th, 2009Finally a smart decision. I have never understood why Halloween films aren’t in theaters on Halloween. Seems like a no brainer.

Posted by Jurassicalien on October 1st, 2009Apparently all these people who tore down rob zombie’s halloween 2 remake, no nothing about how to make a horror film. He uses psychology to describe why he goes insane. Graduating with a major in psychology from american university which means I know alot about how to put psychology into film. Also the fact, that he made laurie strode a living mess after what happened to her in the first one was just plain genius. In conclusion, bringing his mother back in his head dressed in white, is terrific symbolism. This was a fantastic remake! To all you critics out there, like for example Bryan explain why you thought it sucked. Personally I think you are a fuckin idiot!
