Film Junk Poll: What is the Best Zombie Movie?

I thought for sure we had already done a poll about zombie movies before, but apparently we haven’t, and with Zombieland hitting theatres this weekend (to particularly stellar reviews, no less), I thought it would be an appropriate topic for discussion. I have my suspicions about which movie will come out victorious here, but it should be a pretty tight battle either way.
Do you go with one of the old classics or the new wave? Slow-walking or fast-running? Serious or funny? I know there are plenty of great zombie flicks that aren’t on this list, so cast your vote in the poll and then discuss your other favourites in the comments below.

Well do the infected with the rage virus in 28 days later qualify as zombies though? I suppose it is a movie in the zombie genre though and thats what the poll is about
Posted by Teo on September 30th, 2009Why isn’t Romero’s “Day of the Dead” on the list? It’s my favorite Romero “Dead” movie, besides “Night.” Plus, is Evil Dead 2 really zombies? I haven’t seen it in years, but wasn’t it more like demonic possession?
Posted by paulm on September 30th, 2009I agree that Day Of The Dead should be on the list. It’s definitely my favorite of the Romero zombie films.
I also agree that the Evil Dead films aren’t really zombie movies because the deadites are possessed, not infected by a disease/virus/etc.
I love Shaun Of The Dead, but it’s not the best zombie movie. Given the choices above, I gotta go with either Dawn of the Dead or 28 Days Later…
Dawn it is.
Posted by Rian on September 30th, 2009I too agree that Romero’s, “Day of the Dead” should be included and Evil Dead 2 should be omitted.
The idea that ANYONE would vote for 28 Days Later as the BEST ZOMBIE MOVIE really troubles me.
Posted by Daemon on September 30th, 2009…its not fare.. you can only vote once…
Posted by kyriacos on September 30th, 2009What about “An Inconvenient Truth”?
Zombies LOVE that movie.
That being said, while not a traditional Zombie movie, Shaun of the Dead is the only movie on your list that I could watch twice in one day without being bored – so it gets my vote as “best.”
Posted by Shut-Up Ed on September 30th, 2009…all the podcast are DEAD!!!!!!
Posted by kyriacos on September 30th, 2009I agree, Evil Dead II doesn’t really fit in the Zombie category.
Posted by Nick D on September 30th, 2009Yeah Day Of The Dead should’ve been included, very Under-rated Zombie flick. Worth watching for Captain Rhodes alone! Hilarious.
Re-Animator & Night of the Creeps are worth a mention too.
Would have to pick Dawn of the Dead (1978). As epic a Zombie movie as you can get, has everything in it.
Posted by Nemesis on October 1st, 2009sorry, i gotta complain too, I think Night of the Living Dead 1991 directed by Tom Savini should be on the list.
Posted by Bob The Slob on October 1st, 2009I have torch and pitchfork at hand and from the bottom of my lungs I scream ‘DAY OF THE DEAD?’ the most apocalyptic and best zombie movie ever.
Posted by Lee on October 1st, 200928 Days Later is NOT a zombie movie. EVIL DEAD 2 is NOT a zombie movie. No way, no how.
Posted by ottobud on October 1st, 2009I saw Day of the Dead when I was 10 and the tone of that movie affected me deeply, and even at that age I had seen some splatter but it was all in the tone on that one.
Posted by Lee on October 1st, 2009I had to go with “Night” as my sentimental favorite. It’s not as slick as the others, but it’s still amazing when you consider how it got made. They’re all really good though.
Posted by paulm on October 1st, 2009How is Dead Alive only at 2.5%. I love that friggin’ movie. Not that it’s the best but it deserves better than that.
Posted by Marck on October 1st, 2009How is Dead Alive only at 2.5%. I love that friggin’ movie! Not that it’s the best but it deserves better than that.
Posted by MarckH on October 1st, 2009Fido should def be on there ;0)
Posted by Noah Sol on October 1st, 2009What about Pontypool? You don’t see all that many zombies but it’s scary as hell!
Posted by Jody on October 1st, 2009I had to go with Dawn just because the aftermath angle seems to ground it’s post-apocalyptic themes with an errie realism.
Posted by Ian on October 2nd, 2009World War Z will be the best once made… or at least it should be based on the book!
