The first was called Love Affair in 1939, and his remake was the famous 1957 version. He had the opportunaty to beautifully shoot his remake in CinamaScope, and it being almost 20 years later to make a more mature version (save for those damn kids). Plus he had the opportunity to shoot it with Gary Grant! It makes me think that a remake of a movie by the same director is a pretty cool idea. I mean, who better to fully realize their own vision?
