Pirates 4 Shooting In Spring, Geoffrey Rush Confirmed Back

Johnny Depp might not be in the mood for piratey shenanigans at the moment, but Geoffrey Rush is ready and waiting. The man behind Captain Barbossa has confirmed to MTV News that he will appear in On Stranger Tides, the fourth film in the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise. Rush has also given MTV word on when the movie will most likely go into production, that being spring of 2010, as he has been told to keep his schedule open for that period. That’s earlier than I would have thought, but then again the Pirate movies have always been speed developed.
Rush also talked a bit about the movie in general and how the writers were working on making the movie different from the first trilogy, making it something that can be seen as a standalone film that isn’t connected to the storyline of the other films and won’t just repeat the first three in how the plot plays out either. It needs to be a movie that can be seen without having seen any of the others basically, a fresh start for the franchise. What do you think, do you agree that this should be something totally new within the same universe, or would you prefer to see what worked well in the first three films applied to a new adventure that continues the storyline?

A truck showed up at Depp’s house and dumped a couple million dollars in his back yard to do a movie. Im sure i’d do it. As would you. But when was the last time a 4th film in a series was good?
I say dont even bother writing it. It’s going to be bad.

Posted by Falsk on September 26th, 2009The absence of Will & Elizabeth has GOT to be an advantage over #3. Sounds like they’re taking a turn towards ‘real’ pirates, which has to be a good thing. I’m optimistic.
