WTF: Nicolas Cage’s Superman Costume from Tim Burton’s Superman Lives?
As many of you probably know, back in the late 90’s Tim Burton had been hired by Warner Brothers to direct a new Superman movie based on the Death of Superman storyline with Nicolas Cage signed on to star. The screenplay was written by Kevin Smith, and if you’ve seen An Evening With Kevin Smith, you know that the movie was shaping up to be a total disaster. Thankfully, that particular movie never ended up seeing the light of day, but now, courtesy of TimBurton.jp, we have our first look at an alleged costume test for Nic Cage as the Man of Steel. I have a hard time believing this is real, but when I think back to Kevin Smith’s stories, I have to admit, it’s possible. Check out the embedded video above and just bask in the glory of what could have been!

Posted by Ovenball on September 22nd, 2009Hahahahahahaha! That pic of Nic Cage at the end is the worst thing ever!
Posted by soldierboy on September 22nd, 2009The second concept art actually looked pretty good. But Nicholas Cage??? What a joke.
Posted by Chris on September 22nd, 2009Looks like somebody photoshopped Nicolas Cages head onto an action figure wearing a suit that looks nothing like concept art.
Posted by Henrik on September 22nd, 2009*nothing like the concept art.
Posted by Henrik on September 22nd, 2009That looks like butt.
Posted by Derek on September 22nd, 2009I so hope that it’s legit.
Posted by modesilver on September 22nd, 2009Looks like basic Tim Burton crap. I have actually seen most of the other pictures at other places. The last Cage pic I never saw. Im against Cage being Superman but I wouldn’t mind if Superman had some longer hair. Now if only we could actually get someone who looked like they are actually built like Superman.

Posted by Machete on September 23rd, 2009That’s definitely one of those concepts/projects that you are so glad they didn’t actually do. I have a problem with doing Superman movies. The basic concept of his character doesn’t really lend to good movies. They seem to end up being campy like the Donner movies or focusing on a tangential aspect of the story (e.g. Lois & Clark, Smallville). I think the Superman character is pretty thin because since he’s way more super powerful than every other character, he was born into his powers, and doesn’t have any kind of real big conflict or issue over being Superman. I guess the only issues are kryptonite, bald megalomaniacal industrialists, and trying to convince that Clark Kent and Superman look absolutely alike.
Posted by Maopheus on September 23rd, 2009I don’t know why everyone hates the last Superman Movie, I think it is one of the best superhero fims ever made.
The special effects are amazing – I still get amped up watching him save the plane from crashing – the dude that plays Superman is superb – Superman – with the powers of a God – still plays as incredibly human with real emotional conflict… Oh yeah, and he rips a huge chunk out of the earth after tunneling through it with heat vision and then tossess it into the friggin Sun and saves the world!!!
I love that movie.
