Weekly Poll Results: Most Anticipated Fall Movie

pollresultsanticipatedfall09

Looking ahead to the movies that are on tap for the fall season, this week’s poll results leave little doubt that Spike Jonze’s Where the Wild Things Are is by far the one film that people are absolutely dying to see. With over 40% of the votes, it outpaced both Avatar and The Road combined (the second and third-highest vote getters respectively). After that the votes drop off steeply, with Zombieland and Sherlock Holmes rounding out the top 5, and the rest of the titles apparently generating very little excitement. Does this mean that the fall season is looking a little bit lacklustre? Or will a lot of the smaller films make up for the absence of heavily-hyped major releases?

1. Where the Wild Things Are — 41.4%
2. Avatar — 16.5%
3. The Road — 15.1%
4. Zombieland — 8%
5. Sherlock Holmes — 6.4%
6. 2012 — 4.3%
7. Ninja Assassin — 3%
8. Fantastic Mr. Fox — 2.7%
9. Jennifer’s Body — 1.4%
10. Twilight: New Moon — 1.1%

  1. I can’t remember ever liking a Spike Jonze movie, but “Where the Wild Things Are” looks like it’s going to be good. I’ll catch it on DVD or Cable.

  2. I restate my irritation of A Serious Man not even being an option to vote for. IT’S A COEN BROTHERS FILM.

  3. You’re right about A Serious Man, and I’m looking forward to it as well. It’s just that it’s going to be a smaller release and I mainly stuck to the “blockbusters” for the sake of making the poll more accessible.

  4. My most anticipated is Avatar and The Road. Unfortunately, The Road won’t be out here till 2010. I’m making an international trip to see Avatar as we don’t have any IMAX screens here in Ireland.

  5. I just love Spike Jonze’s work. Where the wild things are looks amazing.

You think this movie would receive the same attention if the creatures had been done in cgi? handcrafted > cgi. Fucking hate cgi. But yeah, I cant wait for this movie, haha.

  6. Y’know what else was a Coen Brothers movie? “Intolerable Cruelty”. :\

  7. … Good movie. I wish there was an option to select more than 1 in a ranking fashion- I’m equally excited for the road, wild things, and Mr. Fox

  8. It does seem rather lackluster. That’s all that’s coming out this fall that is any good?
