Robert Zemeckis’s A Christmas Carol Trailer Starring Jim Carrey

This trailer for Robert Zemeckis’s A Christmas Carol is not new in any way… in fact, it’s been playing in theatres for months and I’m guessing a lot of people out there are already sick of seeing it. However, for some reason it hadn’t been available online until earlier this week… maybe because they wanted to force people to see it in 3-D first? I’m not sure. Either way, I thought it would be worth posting, at least for the people who haven’t been to a theatre in a few months.
A Christmas Carol uses the same performance capture technology that Zemeckis has been playing around with since The Polar Express, and it stars Jim Carrey as Ebenezer Scrooge and the three ghosts. You already know it’s going to make a ton of money just based on the fact that it’s a family-friendly holiday movie with him in it. What drives me nuts about this trailer is that it throws all the technical wizardry in your face (the facial deformation, the melting snowflake, skin texture) without giving a single reason why we need another retelling of this classic story. Who knows, maybe it will end up surprising me, but as of right now, I just feel like it’s How the Grinch Stole Christmas all over again. What do you think, will this actually be worth checking out? A Christmas Carol hits theatres on November 6th; check out the trailer after the jump.

Only if there is a twist that is good would I check it out. Seen this story done so many times….. even Duck style….

Wikipedia lists 21 film adaptations of this movie since 1901. Other than my mother and people with no short term memories, who isn’t sick to death of this premise?
Posted by Kim on September 16th, 2009By the way, it also lists 45 different TV shows that have presented their own version of the tale since 1944, made worse by the fact that they’re all replayed every year at Christmas.

I’m not defending it sean…but we don’t technically NEED any telling of any story…right.

Posted by Sean on September 16th, 2009That is one of the ugliest and most unappealing trailers I’ve ever seen.
Posted by Nate on September 16th, 2009Bob Zemeckis what happened to you?!
Posted by ProjectGenesis on September 16th, 2009I’ll stick with The Muppet Christmas Carol.

Posted by BigHungry on September 16th, 2009Good point… I think of Scrogged with Bill Murray and it is a Christmas Classic.
Maybe not Christmas Vacation Classic but a Classic.
Gimme the Mickey Mouse version any day of the week. I think it’s only 20-30 minutes, they play it every year around the holidays and it’s great. When you got a character named Scrooge McDuck, it’s a slam-dunk no-brainer.
