Greg’s 2009 TIFF Report: Day 4

Not very often do I find myself with nothing to do when I come up to TIFF, but that occurred on Monday. It was one of those rare days where I don’t have a screening and I figured since I did fuck all, I’d combine Monday and Tuesday into one report. I mean, I could have just sent a report that said “Hi!” and left it at that, but that’s not very entertaining at all.
Although I didn’t have any TIFF related stuff on Monday I did attend WWE’s Monday Night Raw at the ACC. It was a pretty good show with the return of Toronto native Trish Stratus, looking nice as a brunette these days. It also gave me an opportunity to laugh at my friend for paying $25 to park. $25. For two hours. Wow. He then in turn laughed at me for paying $4.25 for a bottle of Coke Zero. Well played. The worst part of watching a wrestling event in Toronto is the obligatory scattering of assholes wearing Toronto Maple Leaf hockey jerseys. You get all kinds of player jerseys too. Darcy Tucker, Wendel Clark, Mats Sundin, Jamie ‘Boom Boom’ Macoun….yeah, Macoun. I shit you not. Then of course when there’s a match that Leaf fans aren’t interested in, you get the ‘Go Leafs Go’ chant happening. That’s the sound that makes me want to slap an old man in the mouth.
Tuesday morning I have a screening of Atom Egoyan’s new film Chloe, starring Liam Neeson, Julianne Moore and Amanda Seyfried. I’m a fan of Egoyan’s and even though I read nothing about this movie, I knew I was going to see it. The film opens on some bare breasts. It was at this point that I decided I liked this movie. I’m kidding. I’m not like that. I couldn’t possibly be swayed by a buxom lass. You can read my full movie review here. You can also read my full review of the bare breasts here.
If you thought the wrestling talk ended with Raw then you were wrong, you see I also got to attend a television taping for WWE Superstars, ECW and Friday Night Smackdown. Even better news is the fact the location of our seats put us right in the camera view and my friends and I will be on four hours of network television this week. Watch Smackdown on Friday night and when you get the full ring on screen look to the top right of your screen. Smackdown taped in Hamilton and it was good to get out of Toronto for a bit and head back to my second home. Say what you will about Hamilton, but I love it. The get together with my friends was a reunion of sorts of my old Music World co-workers. Sure it’s been over five years since we all worked together, but I think we’re all still a tight group. In fact, I even promised not to talk about my one friend’s vasectomy in my reports. See, buddy? I told you I could keep it a secret.
Wednesday is going to be a tough day. I have four TIFF screenings. I’m going to die.

Posted by Kim on September 16th, 2009I’m an idiot as well. Greg, you should get paid for every click on that link.
I’ve been reading all your TIFF movie reviews and daily posts. You really should find a publisher for your “Gasman Diaries.” You could hold an autograph signing at the bookstore you manage.
I’ll have to remember to wear my Leaf’s hockey jersey for the next time I see you. My being an old man as well, I’m guessing the jersey will be enough for you to finally fulfill your threat of physical violence on me.
Posted by Reed Farrington on September 16th, 2009When Greg comes back and fulfills this threat, will it be posted as an episode of Cantankerous or a Film Junk Video Podcast?
Posted by Kim on September 16th, 2009Haha. Reed. I love that guy.
