The House of the Devil Red Band Trailer

I don’t think I’m alone when I say that Ti West’s upcoming horror movie The House of the Devil didn’t even cross my radar until the first poster for the movie turned up online. Strange as it might seem, the retro graphic design for the poster totally piqued my interest, and ever since then I’ve been hearing all kinds of positive buzz about the movie. It premiered at the Tribeca Film Festival earlier this year, after which it was picked up by Magnet Releasing, the folks who put out recent genre hits like Let The Right One In and Timecrimes.

The House of the Devil is an ’80s period flick about a college student who accepts a babysitting job in a Victorian mansion out in the middle of nowhere. Slowly she begins to realize that the home owners actually have other plans for her… plans that involve a satanic ritual! Sucks to be her. Writer/director Ti West also directed the upcoming sequel to Eli Roth’s Cabin Fever, Cabin Fever 2: Spring Fever. The House of the Devil will premiere on Amazon, Xbox Live and VOD a month before it hits select theatres; look for it online October 1st and in theatres October 30th. A slightly updated red band trailer went up on Hulu this week; check out an embedded version that will play outside the U.S. after the jump.

  1. Oh good god, this looks great! There are very few genuinely good horror movies out nowadays, so keeping my fingers crossed here that this delivers.

  2. Wow, that looks awesome.

  3. I’m Happy with this!

  4. looks throwbacktastic!

  5. rather watch a shitty Andreas Bethmann.

  6. if you want a good horror movie watch the recent French stuff such as Martyrs and Inside. Both great!

  7. just saw this film on vod hd, it was very good. Slow, but slow can be good and tension building.

  8. I just watched this with a bunch of people including Sean, Jay and Greg (who fell asleep during the movie due to the lateness of the hour). I had not read or heard any of the hype prior to watching. I absolutely hated this film because I didn’t find the limited dialog or the visuals interesting. There was nothing original to my eyes. So for all of you who think I like only bad films, maybe you’ll like this film. (Sean and Jay liked it.)

(BTW, we watched “Halloween III: Season of the Witch” as well. I absolutely hated this film as well. At least the majority of critics agree with me on this assessment.)
