Nicolas Cage Leaves The Green Hornet

Just when things start to look good for Seth Rogen’s upcoming action-comedy The Green Hornet, something new comes up. This time around it’s not a change regarding Kato or the director but instead the movie’s villain that has dropped out, that being Nicolas Cage. There’s no word on why Cage has dropped out other than that he has failed to reach an agreement with Columbia Pictures regarding the movie, so it’s possibly something to do with his paycheck not being big enough. Luckily, Cage had yet to stand in front of camera, so if they are quick about it they should be able to find his replacement without having to add any extra days of production.
If the problem with Cage is indeed about money then this might just be a sign that Columbia is losing faith in the project, something I think is only natural with Rogen’s last couple of films underperforming at the box office combined with all the problems regarding The Green Hornet so far. And really, one of the only reasons I could imagine Cage turning down an easy paycheck is if the check wasn’t big enough. Seeing as he has been buffing up his films-per-year schedule from about 2 to having almost 10 confirmed or possible projects lined up for the next couple of years, I think that points in the direction that the man is trying to collect some mo’ money. What do you think is the reason for Cage bailing on Rogen… is it the money or something else entirely?

I could care less! I mean I really like Nicholas Cage but it seems like he’s actually trying to hurt his legacy as an actor with every shit role that he takes so perhaps this was a blessing in disguise.
That said this film can go either way and we won’t know how it’s going to turn out until we at least get a trailer.

Posted by Bas on September 11th, 2009Go for cage,i mean what was he gonna do?a villain i don’t think so,just give me that nick cage 3D movie or Ghostrider 2 or Bangkok Dangerous 3.
Posted by Machete on September 11th, 2009whatever the reason was, all i know is that it’s a bad move for nick cage’s career.
also on another note, my excitement for this Green Hornet project has died down a little with all the cast changes. it’s never good for a project to have such a shaky start.
Posted by modesilver on September 11th, 2009I can’t really blame Nick for this move. With as many changes as this movie is undergoing and with as much faith as everybody is losing in it, it’s really no wonder. I’ve personally lost all interest in The Green Hornet after Steven Chow dropped out. What does this movie have going for it? Crappy martial arts and Get Smart-stlye “comedy.” Does really anybody want to watch Rogen just ham it up for one and a half hours?
Posted by Matt on September 11th, 2009I think the most likely reason is that Cage feels this role lacks the prestige he is looking for. As his career progresses, he wants to restrict himself to only the highest quality projepfffffffhahahahaha ok i can’t say that with a straight face
