Cineplex Slashes Ticket Prices

I’m happy to point out some good news for Canadian movie-goers…sorry rest-of-the-world.
Jam! reports that Cineplex Theatres, beginning Sept. 15th, will be cutting ticket prices across Canada by re-establishing that Tuesday night is cheap date night.
Hmm. Does that mean the date itself is cheap or that I’m a cheap date?
Anyway, Cineplex will be offering a combo of a movie ticket, regular popcorn and regular fountain drink for half price.
My first thought was that they would do this because they need to draw people back into the theatres, but we all know that this summer was a record breaking time for theatres and that fact was pointed out by Cineplex spokesman, Pat Marshall. ‘Cineplex had a record year of attendance. This is a way for us to give back to our customers.”
Is this going to satisfy everyone that thinks it’s too expensive to go to the movies? I doubt it, but I think it’s a step in the right direction and a very good idea.
Would you go to the movies more on Tuesdays because of this? Will this make it easier for me to get a date?

here in Chicago, we got $6 Tuesday movies at a Kerasote theater all the time WITH FREE POPCORN! full of kids, families watching R rated movies with babies, and gangbangers. Jay C. would love it!
Posted by rus in chicago on September 10th, 2009Still doesn’t beat Two Toonie Tuesdays ($4) at the Rainbow. I only go to Cineplex when I have passes.
Posted by Ashley on September 10th, 2009Yes, but will they start showing a better variety of film. 49 screens within 5-20 minutes away and 14 films showing. Cineplex=Fail.
Posted by Colleeny on September 10th, 2009It’s kind of sad that my first thought was that I could go alone to the theaters on Tuesdays for those films no one wants to see with me… Or to see a movie again that I really enjoyed.

And nice choice of photo. For those that might be curious, that’s the Empire Granville Cinemas on Granville Street in Vancouver. It used to be a Cineplex but hasn’t been for 3 or 4 years.

Posted by Niklas on September 10th, 2009In China, it has been six or seven years, all the theater on Tuesday is half priced, anyway, the ticket price in China is also unbelivable high
Posted by Xu on September 10th, 2009I think this will be a huge draw for people that go to the movies more of as a treat or special occasion, and bring it to being more of a regular out and about adventure.
I’m astonished by how almost all the non-film buff people I know won’t consider going to a movie unless they are getting popcorn and a drink. I go way to often for that to be a requirement!
Posted by Shannon the Movie Moxie on September 10th, 2009I go to the cineplex in Sarnia, ON and it is already $4.20 on a Tuesday night. Half price tickets (where tickets are usually $9.95 on a regular night) actually means the price is going up…
Clever, clever. It is good news for people buying at the concession stand though.
