Jason Reitman’s Up in the Air Trailer

upintheairtrailer

Following up on the first clip that we posted earlier today, the teaser trailer for Jason Reitman’s Up in the Air has now taken the web by storm and it’s not exactly what I expected. It seems that Jason Reitman is going for something a little bit deeper and darker than his previous films, and although it does have a similar tone to Thank You For Smoking, you could definitely watch this and not even know it’s supposed to be a comedy. Or is it?

The entire trailer is essentially a monologue from George Clooney talking about the baggage we all carry around with us, mixed with some aesthetically-pleasing imagery of airports and cities. Clearly the airport theme is pretty ripe for metaphors and philosophical musings, I just hope it doesn’t get too heavy-handed. Has anyone out there read the book? What do you think of this trailer? Watch it over at /Film now. Up in the Air hits select theatres on December 4th.

  1. This gives a better feel than the clip. It looks really decent actually. Though I am noticing that with each movie Jason Reitman puts out, there is less humour. Thank You For Smoking was wryly humourous and a straight-up satirical movie. Juno was a quirky drama which had witty remarks and humourous elements. Up In The Air seems to be the most somber of all of his film. But I guess since he’s still a fairly new director, it’s not considered a departure or shock. It could be seen as him finding his voice and/or stretching his wings.

  2. I prefer “The Air Up There” starring Kevin Bacon.

  3. I’m not sure what the film is about but the cast is stellar and the trailer looked interesting. I’m going to check this out when it makes it’s theatrical debut.

  4. Who, Kevin Bacon?

  5. This is how you make a fucking stellar trailer.

  6. i wish george colony to be struck by lightning. if i saw george colonophagas walking down the street i would try to piss on his pants.

  7. I saw “Up in the Air”in its first showing in Telluride last weekend. Paramount is making a mistake labelling it a romantic comedy. It has lots of funny and even iconic scenes, but it has unanticipated weight. It’s main theme is the importance of interpersonal relationships, but Reitman wittingly or unwittingly makes you think twice about what really is important and what really is happyness. As days have gone by, I find the film delivers far more than was apparent at first glance. There are good sight gags too. When I went through security at the Denver airport today, I held my bording pass straight armed out in front of me nd walked wooden through the gate, like Clooney. I was grateful for the confused look on the attendant’s face. He will see lots more of that after the film is released. Go in with an open mind. It is a must see.

  8. Trailer is awesome!
