Disney Crushes Marvel Fanboys – Part 1

pixarantman

Maybe that’s not the most accurate statement, but I thought it was funny.

So, there’s this Ant-Man movie that’s been bouncing around for awhile now with British writer/director Edgar Wright (’Shaun of the Dead’) attached. Well, EW is reporting that Disney’s Pixar studios are sort of, ‘eyeballing’, the project. What does that mean? Who the hell knows?

Let’s look at some facts. 1) Marvel big wig Kevin Feige did not include Ant-Man in his list of heroes that will be appearing in the ‘Avengers’ film during a Q&A at this year’s Comic-Con. It appears ‘Ant-Man’ has already fallen out of favour with Marvel.  2) Edgar Wright’s next project is a film titled ‘Baby Driver’, plus there is his next collaboration with Simon Pegg and Nick Frost, so ‘Ant-Man’ doesn’t appear to be a priority. Seems to me this version of the ‘Ant-Man’ movie has the words ‘back-burner’ all over it, which is a shame because it could have been interesting with Edgar Wright in charge.   I think it’s also safe to assume that Wright’s version of ‘Ant-Man’ isn’t going to mesh with family friendly Pixar, so it would have to be a complete overhaul.

Does this mean Pixar is going to do an ‘Ant-Man’ movie? No. ‘Eyeballing’ isn’t really saying much, but just one week after the acquisition and we already have our first Disney/Marvel rumour.

Let the fanboys revolt.

  1. @Greg-

Having part 1 in your title says a lot… more to come.
    NOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  2. Fanboys of what? Marvel?

I’m going to go out on a limb and say “Ant-Man” does not have much of a fanboy-fanbase… He’s been around for a while – a part of the Avengers for some time – but essentially, he’s an alcoholic, wife-beater in a red unitard and a goofy helmet that talks to bugs and shrinks…

…Holy shit! This WOULD be an awesome movie!!!

  3. Yet another point that makes a Pixar Ant-Man unfathomable: if they do an Ant-Man movie to set him up for Avengers, how in the hell will that CG Ant-Man mesh with a live-action Avengers?

I look forward to whatever Edgar Wright is doing. Now that his take seems more unlikely than ever before I’m back to thinking Ant-Man is a ridiculous idea (unless another awesome director gets on board).

  4. “f they do an Ant-Man movie to set him up for Avengers, how in the hell will that CG Ant-Man mesh with a live-action Avengers?”

Except they’re NOT setting him up for Avengers. He’s not going to be in it.

  5. I would agree with Ed in that I don’t know that there were any fan boys to be crushed by this. Antman is pretty minimal in the Marvelverse. In fact the character of Dr. Henry Pym is more important than any of his specific alter egos (Antman/Giantman/etc). Pym could show up as a character in an Avengers movie pretty easily and I think he would work better as a non-costumed scientist/engineer/egghead type. He could be like a Doc Samson.

  6. The ‘revolt’ thing was a general reference to the Marvel fans being worried about the Disney takeover and not specifically to Ant-Man.

    My bad.

  7. YES!!

Pixar and Ant Man are a match made in heaven. Crazy science, shifts in perspective, humour, etc..

This would be like The Incredibles with a dash of A bug’s Life.

    please please make this happen

  8. But Pixar already made Incredibles and Bug’s Life.

And I’d hate to see some of the best story-tellers out there start not doing their own stories.

Is it me or does the idea of an Antman movie seem more ridicules than the silly fake Aquaman movie by James Cameron on the show Entourage?

PS. I’m sick of superhero movies.
