Boondock Saints II: All Saints Day Trailer

The Boondock Saints is one of those late ’90s post-Pulp Fiction flicks that I never got around to seeing, but clearly it still has a pretty big following. Otherwise, how else would writer-director Troy Duffy manage to get a sequel off the ground a decade later? The documentary Overnight showed just how many bridges he had burned while shooting the first film, but somehow he was finally able to convince Sony to greenlight Boondock Saints II: All Saints Day. Now this week we also have a trailer to prove it.

The original cast members have all returned for the sequel, with the exception of Willem Dafoe. The MacManus brothers have been hiding out Ireland, but when they hear that a Boston priest has been killed, they return to exact bloody revenge. There’s something about this trailer that still reeks of the ’90s, which in my opinion, actually works for it. It almost seems like they’re trying to market it as a Guy Ritchie movie, since the trailer has definite similarities to the RocknRolla trailer. Still, it takes a little more than cool shots of people shooting guns to make a worthwhile flick… do you think Duffy will be able to deliver? Boondock Saints II hits theatres on October 30th; check out the trailer after the jump.

  1. No. No no no. I remember hearing about the sequel back in high school when I first saw the film. I’m actually afraid to rewatch it for fear that it won’t hold up…

But I never saw a reason to do a sequel and this just looks super low budget and super… not very good.

  2. The original was terrible. The perfect example of a moving trying to be “cool” instead of having actual characters and plot. This one looks straight to video quality.

  3. I watched that docu. about the Duffy boys ego and fall from grace:

    http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0390336/

it even captured Duffy’s anti-Semitic slurs, maybe there are second chances in LA after all?

  4. Despite being a complete asshole the man was a competent director and I enjoyed the first one very much. I’ll be checking this out for sure. I just hope Ron Jeremy is in it.

  5. Just seems like a useless sequel. The first one was good, but didn’t need one.

  6. The original saint’s was awesome. It was a cool movie with a ton of action. The cinematography and music really helped creating the atmosphere. I think if this one is done right then it could be a good movie. But in no way can ever be as good as, or better then the first one. I mean, when he drops the toilet on the guy’s head. That was so awesome. Maybe they could explain a little bit more about how that guy is their father, and how he came into working for the Italian Mafioso.

  7. The first film was waaayyy overrated then as it is now and I can’t see the sequel being much better. Hopefully Troy Duffy learned a bit of humility and has gained a better appreciation for the film making process.

  8. FIRST MOVIE SUCKED.

    THIS MOVIE WILL SUCK TOO.

  9. Man I despise you pretentious, contraian, Boondock Saints haters.

    Can’t wait for II.

  10. Umm, isn’t loving Boondock Saints the contrarian opinion?

  11. no.

  12. Loving the trailer for All Saints Day, however, would be a contrarian opinion.

    It looks like bloody diarrhea.

  13. I really wanted to like it. Defoe, a cool slogan “Thy Kingdom Come, Thy Will Be Done,” but … it just wasn’t that good. As in, boring.

I’m up for a good B movie, and it wasn’t even that.

    Stay away.

    Don’t support bad film.

  14. Boondock Saints is entertaining in spite of how much about it is awful. The film is meant to be taken much more seriously than it comes across. In other words, a lot of its charm is accidental.

The documentary Overnight only confirms it.

As for the sequel, the only reason it exists at all is because Duffy like the idiot he is signed away the DVD rights for the first one and thus never made a dime off of it. This is the only way he can cash in, and its telling that it took this long to get anyone to trust him to do just that.

  15. The first one is atrocious but I will definitely watch this when it comes out. Because, I agree that “Boondock Saints is entertaining in spite of how much about it is awful.” I’m just so surprised he was able to get the cast back, I would have thought someone like Billy Connolly would know better, Peter Fonda too!

  16. i liked the first one. it was violent and fun. defoe was great. i know so much of it was bad, but it was fun.

this one looks like a bigger budget, but the same flick. how stupid is it that since willem wont do it they just make a female version, and includ that one sentence explanation about the protoge? silly.

ill see it. im sure itll have some fun violence, lots of bad religious symbolism, and irish accents. ill proly enjoy it less than the first.

  17. no defoe no go. maybe if Sean Patrick Flanery reprised his character in powder. irish people need something to feel good about

  18. defoe wanted to be in it but schedules conflicted, most likely because he was doing that new vampire movie with ethan hawke. once his schedule cleared he wanted to be a part of the movie but the director had already written him out of the script which really sucks, very iffy about this sequel. I enjoyed the first movie, very entertaining, seems like troy is trying to capitolize on a good movie. We’ll see i guess, and yeah what the F happened to flannerys face???
