Transylmania vs Stan Helsing: Duel of the Dreaded Horror Spoofs

When Leslie Nielsen appeared at the Toronto Fan Expo this past weekend, it wasn’t based on recognition for his popular role as Frank Drebin from Police Squad. Rather, it was to promote his latest spoof film, Stan Helsing, directed by Bo Zenga, producer of the original Scary Movie. Haven’t heard of it? Well, that could be because it is going direct to DVD on October 27th.
At the same time, a trailer has arrived online this week for another terrible looking horror parody called Transylmania. Directed by Scott and David Hillenbrand (National Lampoon Presents Dorm Daze), this is just basically another college frat comedy transplanted to vampire country (Romania). Stan Helsing may have the “star power” of Leslie Nielsen and Kenan Thompson, but Transylmania is the one that is apparently getting a theatrical release on December 4th. Go figure. Compare the trailers for both flicks after the jump and help us determine which one looks worse.

Posted by Ledgewood on September 2nd, 2009*raises hand in shame* I normally get a few chuckles from some of these movies…
Posted by Slushie Man on September 2nd, 2009It would be different if the spoofs were actually funny, but they aren’t. I enjoyed the Scary Movie series, but nothing can even come close. I think spoofs have to do a lot with performances and leaving the whole “running into something” cliche out.
Posted by Chris on September 2nd, 2009Why is diora baird in this film? I love diora baird.
Posted by Trent on September 2nd, 2009Diora Baird being in any movie is not going to diminish my admiration for her attachments.
Posted by Maopheus on September 2nd, 2009I loved all 4 Scary Movie movies, and enjoyed Superhero Movie as a once-through, and surprisingly really enjoyed Disaster Movie. Hated all the other spoof movies though and couldn’t even finish Date Movie or Epic Movie.
Posted by Slushie Man on September 2nd, 2009Slushie did you like them because they were so bad that it was funny? Or did you actualy find them funny
Posted by Teo on September 3rd, 2009A friend of mine loves these movies and genuinly finds them funny. I have no idea why I’m friends with him.
Posted by Matt on September 3rd, 2009I’m with Slushie Man.
The Scary Movie series has Cindy and Brenda and there are some memorable moments in each film. 1 & 2 were better than 3 & 4. Wayans Bros had a knack for producing funny stuff, even thought many crybabies out there deem some of it “offensive”.
