Great indie film. I first saw Superbad in theaters in 07, and hated it. Then I saw it again, loved it, and rented Adventureland last week, loved it too, and then rented Daytrippers to complete the circle, and now I see Mottola as the next thriving force behind romantic comedy/dramas. Perhaps even the next Woody Allen, or am I dreaming in that sense? He did cameo in two Woody Allen films by the way!

Too bad that there's no widescreen release yet. Hate that pan&scan crap. Even open matte would be better.

Oh I'm sure it would help sales, just as it helped raise awareness of Adventureland. The downside is that it creates unfair expectations, because Superbad doesn't really define his career.

"The ironic thing is that we all know the DVD cover will boldly proclaim it to be “From the Director of Superbad!” Well, I guess sometimes you just can’t escape your past."

if thats the truth shouldn't the cover of super bad say in bold letters "FROM THE DIRECTOR OF THE DAY TRIPPERS"

Just sayin. it's for marketing purposes. maybe more people will buy the movie on superbad name alone. Also being one of his most famous and greatest, as well as most popular movies; why would one want to escape from it?

or maybe i just missed your point completely

I remember seeing this film in theaters by accident and found it to be enjoyable. I was mainly into indie films at the time (Post Pulp Fiction) and I would have to see it again to see if it still holds up, or if it's another dated indie film. That said I agree with the overview and semi review and will try and find a cheap copy online. Thanks for bringing this little film back into the spotlight!
