Spider-Man 5 and 6 Gain Writer to Possibly Reboot Series

Although Spider-Man 4 is now on its third rewrite, Sam Raimi and the folks at Sony seem to be fairly happy with the direction that it’s heading in. So happy, in fact, that they’ve decided to go ahead and start planning for Spider-Man 5 and 6 already. According to Variety, they have hired James Vanderbilt, who penned the first draft of Spidey 4 and also David Fincher’s Zodiac, to lay down a story for parts 5 and 6 as well. The plan is for 5 and 6 to have an “interconnected storyline”, and to possibly be shot back to back, which is what had originally been intended for parts 4 and 5.
Here’s the weird thing though: the article also states that neither Sam Raimi, Tobey Maguire nor Kirsten Dunst are confirmed beyond Spider-Man 4, and with Raimi already signed to direct a World of Warcraft movie after this, his return is looking less and less likely. In the case that none of them return, Vanderbilt’s script would be used to reboot the series instead. I guess that means parts 5 and 6 will need to be fairly self-contained. It seems that Sony is only concerned about pumping out Spider-Man flicks as quickly as possibly because they make so much money, but something tells me the fans may not jump on board a reboot quite so easily. If they don’t take care to get the right new cast and creative team in place, that well could very quickly run dry. Do you think Sony should continue to make more Spider-Man movies without Raimi, Maguire and Dunst, or should they just put the series on hold for a while after part 4?

A reboot would be lame, but I guess it would be hard to replace the three of them and continue the series..

yes.
and then after a few years reboot the franchise.
Posted by modesilver on August 17th, 2009I couldn’t care less about this film anymore. Spiderman 3 was such a piece of crap that I don’t even want to see this besides they are making all the wrong decisions.
Posted by Matt Keith on August 17th, 2009They could reboot it using the younger Spiderman from the Marvel Ultimate series.
Posted by Joe Pugs on August 17th, 2009i liked 1 and 2, 3 was painful for me to sit through.
i’m assuming 4 will suck, and i find it weird how fast we can reboot franchises these days.
Posted by Ledgewood on August 17th, 2009i don’t know why the studio keeps pumping out these dumbass reports like they’re really gonna do this shit.
they may be keeping raimi in the loop about things but i don’t think he’s actually said that he was going to direct. then there’s some report saying Gary Ross was writing the script for 4 or something. sheesh. there’s a report every other week about tobey’s production company getting the rights to something, and kirsten . . . i thought she was in rehab or something.
i’m tired of hearing about this. it’s just a lot of talk if you ask me.
Posted by sickandtired on August 17th, 2009I think that Patrick Fugit is the better choice to be
Posted by Om4r on August 17th, 2009the new Spidey and Evan Rachel Wood like the hot MJ, but SONY need to change the characters NOW! to start the spiderman 4 and not wait for another failure like SPIDERMAN 3
I think enough is enough in regards to Spider-Man. Give him a rest for awhile and then come back strong in 4 or 5 more years.
Give some others a shot.
Black Panther
Cloak & Dagger
Alpha Flight
Luke Cage & Iron Fist
Inhumans
Eternals
Get some talented writers, directors and actors involved and see what you can churn out. Anything could be as good or better than some shitty Spider-Man 4.
Okay…maybe not Alpha Flight.
Posted by Greg on August 17th, 2009wow, good thing their planning ahead. I wish batman had this kind of momentum behind it. but I must admit I’m biased, spider man sucks.
and Greg your wrong. Spider man is marvel, why would they give characters no one even really cares about a movie. besides, their going to pump out a single movie of each and every avenger like the up coming Thor movie, they already had hulk (with iron man cameo) they have two iron man movies (one in production now) and they already have a well rounded spider man front.
my only hope is that this rush of marvel and their avengers movie will get DC off it’s ass and we can have a justice league movie.
0m4r i hope the directors would shoot himself before putting rachel wood anywhere near another spidey flick. she can’t act and is not a good looking girl. she would do MJ no justice and should not even be considered for the part.
Posted by rick on August 25th, 2009Spiderman flick suck. They don’t need a reboot. Much wiser if they stop making craps like those. And by the way nothing can top-notch Nolan’s Batman.Truly a masterpiece of old school comic based film which we called cinemawise.
Posted by the loner in the dark on June 20th, 2010I refer the 90’s tv series than the movies. The animated tv series is more adhered to the comics.
