Jared Hess’s Gentlemen Broncos Trailer

gentlemenbroncostrailer

Well, I asked for it, and I got it. The first trailer for Jared Hess’s new film Gentlemen Broncos is now online, and well… give me a minute, I think I’m still processing it. The third feature film from the director of Napoleon Dynamite and Nacho Libre looks every bit as quirky and odd as his previous flicks… maybe even moreso. Is it trying too hard? Possibly. But even though the trailer didn’t actually make me LOL, I’m willing to give it the benefit of the doubt.

Why? First of all, the cast: Jemaine Clement, Michael Angarano, Jennifer Coolidge, Mike White, Sam Rockwell, and of course, Héctor Jiménez (aka Nacho Libre’s sidekick, Esqueleto). Second of all, the subject. The world of fantasy writing is pretty ridiculous, and I love the cheesy intercut movie clips of the novels. This definitely won’t be a movie for everyone, but it just might be awesome. What do you think? Gentlemen Broncos hits theatres on October 30th; check out the trailer after the jump.

  1. I’m liking this. Very cool way to switch back and forth from reality.

  2. I’m in for this. Always appreciate something different.

Hearing ‘you stole my story’ from anyone makes me think of this:

  3. LOL the trailer alone made me laugh several times.

  4. I think this looks rad as hell! I mean Jared Hess is definitely building a distinctive library of films here, and he has a definite individual style, which may slightly borrow from Wes Anderson, but it’s still more than you can say about half the directors out there.

  5. I auditioned for this! (Didn’t get it.)

    Looks hilarious to me.

  6. That was very funny.

  7. didn’t know rockwell was a Fred Armisen impersonator. thanks goon now ill be having fucking nightmares.
awesome cylcops and tit obsessed snake
where is the nacho dude in this?
the lead should have been that girl from dynamite.
    fantasy writing is fantastic

  8. Hmm… I think we have a consensus. I thought the trailer was very funny, too. The science fiction author sounds like he’s voice impersonating James Mason to me. You young ones probably won’t get that reference.

  9. This looks like it could be awesome on many levels. I had a friend in high school who wrote the worst fantasy ‘novels’ and forced me to read them. I love anything that explors the lives of the kind of off-beat, out-of-touch with reality students and teachers you meet in high school.

  10. that’s jermaine from flight of the conchords isnt it?! Im pumped!
