As we mentioned a couple of weeks ago, the world will get its first official sneak peek of James Cameron’s Avatar on Friday, August 21st when a free 15 minute preview will be playing in various IMAX theatres around the world. (The first trailer will also be released online the same day.) I know a lot of people have been wondering how exactly this IMAX sneak peek will work, and Fox has finally issued a press release with information on how to obtain tickets.

Starting on Monday, Aug. 17th at 12 pm noon PST (3 pm EST), they will be giving away free tickets online at www.avatarmovie.com. More than 100 Imax theatres will be participating in the event, and each one will have only two screenings of the Avatar footage, at 6 pm and 6:30 pm. I am guessing the tickets are likely to go fast, so don’t be late! The preview will include new footage in addition to what was shown at the San Diego Comic-Con, plus an intro from James Cameron. Are you planning to take part in Avatar Day?

  1. If it shows up at the Ottawa Imax or the Hull Imax, sure.

  2. Wow – finally the ultra-libs in Hollywood have figured out how to combine the two most tired, effete themes in recent Hollywood history 1) Evil US military killing peaceful aliens, and 2) Evil US coroporations raping nature!

Hopefully the films heroes can kill as many evil US Soldiers and civilians working for evil corporations as possible. It’s the only way to save the planet!!!

Kudos Mr. Cameron. I can’t wait!

  3. I hope they kill some fucking soldiers in this movie! YEAH

  4. Mm? oh,

    “I so angry now Henrik”

    yawn.

  5. ha ha.. bless you ED

I just read up on the script treatment that was going around a few years back and wow.. lame. Cameron seems stuck in the 80/90s in both his vision of future technology and movie structure.

Some guy at Cinemablend essentially called it “Quiqley Down Under” with Ewoks.. ouch. It seems so heavy handed and cliche in both message and delivery method (cartoon cut-out “evil” corporations ala Aliens’ Carter Burke circa 1986). Naturally, mankind has also totally raped the Earth and now intends to do it to the rest of the Universe with the help of all those greedy companies that hate the environment! Whatever..

And explain to me how you have a civilization with interstellar travel and enough genetic mastery to grow alien/human hybrids yet they can’t cure a spinal injury? WTF?

I don’t want Avatar to be Cameron’s episode 1.. but man it does sound lamer and lamer the more I learn about it.
