Cirque Du Freak: The Vampire’s Assistant Trailer Starring John C. Reilly

Although I am now completely sick of hearing the word “vampire”, somehow I could not bring myself to ignore the new trailer for Cirque Du Freak: The Vampire’s Assistant. John C. Reilly as a bloodsucker? Okay, you’ve got my attention. Unfortunately, while the movie clearly has some comedic elements, it doesn’t seem nearly as amusing as I thought it might be.
Directed by Paul Weitz (American Pie, About A Boy), the movie is based on another series of young adult novels, The Saga of Darren Shan by… Darren Shan. (Yes, the author apparently made himself the main character of his stories. Weird.) Darren and his best friend, Steve Leonard are horror aficionados, and after attending a strange sideshow act called Cirque Du Freak one night, they find themselves caught in a web of strange occurrences. It’s definitely Lost Boys meets Harry Potter, but it feels more like an episode of Goosebumps if you ask me. The supporting cast is intriguing though, with Ken Watanabe, Salma Hayek, Willem Dafoe, Ray Stevenson, Patrick Fugit, Jane Krakowski and Orlando Jones all making appearances. Cirque Du Freak: The Vampire’s Assistant hits theatres on October 23rd. Check out the trailer after the jump and see what you think.
