The original Harvey is so great I honestly do not think even Steven Spielberg will be able to do it justice. I think it will be very difficult for the plot and genre to translate to 2009 (or after). Also, I think it will be difficult for audiences to appreciate the simplicity and sincerity of the story line. Furthermore, I can't think of a single actor who could play the role of Elwood P. Dowd as good as Jimmy Stewart. No one today has that "aw shucks" personality for which he is so famous. Perhaps I'm just biased because the original is one of my favorite movies and would hate to see a mediocre version!

I, too, agree that the original version of "Harvey," directed by Henry Koster, is delightfully perfect. Such a cast, and all excellent in their roles. Jimmy Stewart as Elwood P. Dowd. Josephine Hull, the outstanding stage actress who played Elwood's doting sister, Veta Louise. Lovely Peggy Dow made quite an impression as Nurse Wilson. As I recall, this movie was Jesse White's screen debut. Wallace Ford, Victoria Horne, and Charles Drake are all just great, as is the wonderful Cecial Kellaway as Dr. Chumley. I think Spielberg will have a difficult time finding a cast that can recreate the magic that these grand players brought to the original. I wish him luck, but, as for remaking this outstanding truly classic masterpiece, I'll quote Elwood P. Dowd - "I for one, don't think I'd care for it."

who does spielberg think he is messing with a classic like Harvey, you can't better perfection and nobody can play Elwood like Jimmy Stewart. By the way rick Harvey is the rabbit and is never seen in the film

who framed roger rabbit what?

no i'm kidding. I think it could be a very successful movie as long as you have the right actor for harvey. I'm thinking Tom Hanks. I think he could do great as that roll. You deffiantly need an actor with an old school feel, as the main character.
