inFAMOUS Movie Based on Video Game in Development

It’s already been a big month for announcements regarding video game to movie adaptations, but if you thought the flood was going to stop after Comic Con, think again. Sony has announced that they are in the early stages of bringing the recent Playstation 3 game inFAMOUS to the big screen, after picking up a pitch by screenwriter Sheldon Turner (The Texas Chainsaw Massacre: The Beginning, Up in the Air). The deal is for seven figures, and former Marvel head honcho Avi Arad is among the producers on the project.
The game, which just came out back in May, focuses on protagonist Cole MacGrath, a bike messenger who is caught in an explosion that grants him electrical powers. He can choose either a good or evil path as he attempts to fight the chaos that the city has fallen under. Sheldon Turner had this to say about the game:
“What excited me most about the game was it was the first of which I’ve come across that had a big idea and a character arc… It is, I believe, the future of gaming. The game, while big and fun, is at its core a love ballad to the underachiever, which is what our hero, Cole McGrath, is.”
The first game with a big idea and a character arc? Hmm… I’m not so sure about that, although I have yet to play the game. Anyway, like so many of the other movies based on games in development, it could still be a while before this actually heads into production (if ever). Are you interested in an inFAMOUS movie?

Not interested in a movie, as it will just become another superhero movie sans costumes. As a game it was novel and VERY awesome. Gameplay is only 5% of my time spent with the PS3; and about 2% of this gametime was spent with inFAMOUS. You must play this. I mean seriously…aren’t you in the industry?
Posted by Ryan M. on July 30th, 2009The game is AWESOME (I spend 95% of my gaming time with the PS3 – the other 5% with Tiger Woods on the Wii) – but never thought there is need for a movie. Why? Because one can’t play with the movie…
Posted by Sly on July 30th, 2009I hope this gets off the ground. From the very first time I played this game I thought it would make and awesome movie. Cole will need to be a strong lead and there will need to be changes made. I am sure the idea of blast shards are not going to work well bit it has a ton of potential. It would be an awesome movie for someone like Jason Statham or even Seann William Scott if they wanted a little humor in the script.
Posted by Dennis on November 10th, 2009I LOVE the idea of a movie. I just finished the game an hour ago, and the story is so incredible. I can’t say I’m not nervous, considering most video game movies belong in a septic tank, and to the idea of Jason Statham playing Cole, I’ll pass if that’s the case. It’s always difficult, and usually disappointing to convert an iconic game character to a actual person, and the film industry normally screws it up, but I think with a director, writer, and the right person making casting choices, Infamous would be a great flick. My tone my change as soon as casting is announced and the first trailer makes it way online, but I love the idea.
Posted by Will on March 8th, 2010I agree with that inFAMOUS would make a great movie. I haven’t even gotten half way through the game it seemd like a great plot for a movie. I think JAson Stathem who was in the Transporter and Crank movies would play an awesome Cole for the movie. Can’t wait for it to come out.
Posted by Josh on March 24th, 2010sorry. “with” should’t be in that last comment. & “JAson Stathem” should be spelled Jason Statham.
Posted by Josh on March 24th, 2010I like the idea. I only played the demo n i though “this could make a great movie”. I think video game movies never get the production they deserve bc the games they chose are usually games w/ out or minimal plot. Look at the mario movie or tron.
Posted by Meeeeeee on July 4th, 2010InFAMOUS could open a bunch of doors for directors n producers to make better vg movies and we all know we want that.
This would make the best movie of the year! DONE
Posted by Lil-will on September 12th, 2010yes an infamous movie and Jason statham should definitely be cole mcgrath.
Posted by r dawg on February 24th, 2011This idea of the game going to movie will be a 50,50 chance of success or failure the story line to work with is absolutely fantastic as a hero movie if they can keep off the normal superhero format and make it more dark more different and unexpected to someone who hasn’t played the game it will be great. Especially the twist at the end with Cole actually being the bad guy that’s returned from the future to make himself stronger, it will be very very cool and interesting to see how they deal with it. As long as they can keep it original like the game I think it will be very successful.
